Greetings for the month of March and this will be our 3 Credit Valley Shrine Club CamelLot of the year. Noble Don Thompson with assistance from Noble Greg Ferguson are once
again commended for the fine job they are doing putting the Camel-Lot together every
month.
I was pleased to see that the club once again voted to sponsor a Georgetown Soccer Club
summer house league team for 2015. I feel this is an important community event that helps
local youth and allows the club to develop and provide quality soccer programs in a fun
safe environment for the Georgetown community that our club is part of. The Georgetown
Soccer Club appreciates the support we provide every year and this is partly what
Shrinedom is all about.
Noble Don Thompson has once again put a lot of effort into arranging a social night at
Mohawk Racetrack and Casino on Saturday, April 18, 2015. I hope we will all be able to
support him in this effort by attending for a fun night and visiting with good friends.
A visit and tour of the Montreal Shrine Hospital for Children is planned for Friday,
November 06, 2015 to Sunday, November 8, 2015. Information for the trip was outlined in
the February Bulletin and more information will follow. This will be a nice fall trip, an
opportunity to see the new hospital and I hope as many members as possible will be able
to attend.
As a personal aside, they have a Masonic Club in the park where I am staying that I joined
several years ago. This is strictly a social club with Masons from Canada and the US as
members. Membership runs around 50 Masons and when I arrived in January this year I
was informed that I had been nominated for the position of Vice President for 2015. At the
February meeting of the club the executive positions were all filled by acclamation and
voted on. Very similar I thought to the way our groups often work. However it is all fun and
nice to meet Masonic brothers from across the country.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Noble Wayne Reid for so ably assuming
the secretarial duties of the club for the month of January during Secretary Don
Thompson’s absence. Much appreciated by everyone Noble Wayne.
Congratulations to Levon Ferguson grand dog of Noble Fergy for winning $100.00 in the
recent Shrine Lottery draw. This should keep Levon in bones for some time to come.
I will be returning in April and look forward to club meetings and activities.
Yours in faith,
Jim Gilpin President 2015 Credit Valley Shrine Club

History of Credit Valley Shrine Club
A CLUB IS BORN – THE INFIENT YEARS 1990 – 1994
The balance of 1990 was a very busy time under the direction of Noble Alfie Hutchins. The
Club held its first pot luck Ladies night. The first 50/50 draw was won by Lady Joan
Lovegrove who donated her portion back to the Club. Noble Ron Lovegrove presented the
Club with a lectern which he made and I am delighted to say that it is still in use today. That
year, the Club participated in the Georgetown Fall Fair parade. Noble Ross Dryden
donated the wood for our storage locker and Noble Ron Lovegrove built them. Lady Joan
Lovegrove and Lady Joyce Hutchins made storage bags for the flags and gavel. The Club
agreed to sell Christmas cakes. At the November meeting the 1991 budget was presented
and after some discussion approved. It was also decided at that meeting that the
December meeting would be another pot luck dinner with the Ladies. The following dress
code was approved – Light bluejackets, dark blue pants, white shirt, dark blue tie with a
single Shrine crest, black socks and black shoes. Light blue windbreakers with the Club
crest on front and a large Shrine crest on back. New standardized by-laws were received
from the Temple and over 80% of the new by-laws were the same as what the Club had
submitted to get approval to form a Shrine Club. Just a coincidence? The Club participated
in the Oakville Santa Claus Parade. The year finished with a bank balance of $6.616.31.
1991 – Noble Alfie Hutchins remained as President. The Christmas cake profit was
$1,469.55 of which half did not have to go to the Temple. A Club crest was developed and
approved. Ill Sir Ron Groshaw, Potentate installed a new 3rd Vice-President and another
Director. The first meeting of the motorized unit was called by Noble Peter Marshall at the
Ravine restaurant. Guelph Shrine Club asked for our assistance with the Spring
Ceremonial in Guelph. A Founding Members night was held in April and certificates were
presented to the Founding Members. The Club approved the Selling of Christmas Cakes
again this year. Noble Peter Marshall’s Jeep was used in the Guelph Ceremonial parade. A
pot luck dinner was held at the June meeting. Noble Ernie Anderson presented a Draft Doll
which Lady Norma Anderson had made to the Club to be used as a fund raiser. The Club
participated in the Oakville Santa Claus parade. Christmas cakes would be sold in the Erin
Mills Town Centre, Meadowvale Town Centre, Georgetown Mall and Milton Mall. A Pot
Luck with the ladies was held in December...
1992 - The Assistant Rabban conducted the installation of the Club Officers with Noble
Ron Lovegrove as President. Noble Glenn Woolfrey reported that 13 Shrine lottery tickets
were sold. The Noble Riders Unit was approved by the Temple under the direction of Noble
Glenn Woolfrey. Approval from the Temple was received to form the S*M*A*S*H Unit
The two Club Units attended the Spring Ceremonial in Hamilton. After the Erin Santa Claus
parade the Nobles were invited over to Noble Bill Tindall’s for refreshments. The C.V.S.C.
Ladies sold some crafts along with the Nobles selling cakes. $621.61 was raised and
donated to the Shrine Hospital. A Pot Luck dinner was held and Santa Claus was invited to
distribute a gift to all the Ladies.
3
1993 – Noble Jack McEwen, Rameses Treasurer installed the officers as well as
Noble Al Irving as President. The Club had a rink in the Whitefish Bonspiel in Barrie.
C.V.S.C. Masonic Degree team under the direction of Noble Ron Lovegrove put on a
second degree for Friendship Lodge. 16 rooms were confirmed for the Spring
Ceremonial in Barrie. Subsequently the Club was bumped to the Nottawasaga Inn in
Alliston. Noble Ambassador Alfie Hutchins expressed the Club’s displeasure to the
Temple. The Nottawasaga Inn was cancelled and eight rooms were booked at the
Sun Dial in Orillia. The Club’s first Master Mason night was held. The Club planned
to enter six summer parades. A June Pot Luck dinner was held with the Ladies in
attendance. The Club went by Halton School Transit bus to a Blue Jay game. The
Club attended the N. Y. /Ontario Ceremonial in Niagara Falls. The Club Units
participated in the Ceremonial Parade and competition. Christmas cake sales would
be advertised on cable four. A Pot Luck dinner was held again this year with Santa
Claus and the Ladies all receiving a gift.
1994 – Noble Robert Smith, Assistant Rabban installed the Officers of the Club
including Noble Bill Tindall as President. A team would again be entered in the
Whitefish Bonspiel. Sixteen rooms were booked for the Spring Ceremonial in
Belleville. The Club’s degree team did a second degree for Credit Lodge. A
Georgetown soccer team was sponsored at a cost of $180.00. Guelph Shrine Club
requested the Club’s help with the June Circus. Noble Al Irving organized a golf
tournament at the Acton Meadows Golf Course. 31 golfers participated and Noble
Wes Goodman was the winner of the low gross. A Club BBQ was planned for July at
the home of Noble Bill Tindall. Twenty-five rooms were booked for the Spring
Ceremonial in Belleville. Accommodations in Belleville were a disaster and the
Temple was notified. A donation was received from the Belleville Shrine Club as
Compensate for the Club’s inconveniences. Trip to Erie Hospital was planned for
September. Christmas cake sale dates and locations were announced. A 1995
budget was presented and approved. A catered dinner was held in December with
the Ladies and Santa in attendance.
At most meetings there was a guest speaker and/or entertainment.
NOTE: During 1990 an attempt was made to form an Oriental Band under the
leadership of Noble Don Laycock. The interested Nobles met weekly at Noble Al
Irving’s manufacturing facilities to practice. The Nobles marched around numerous
machines trying to play various Oriental Band tunes. They were actually able to get a
couple of songs down pretty good. Lady Joyce Hutchins is a great lover of Oriental
Band music! On Joyce’s birthday the band decided to surprise her. While the family
got her out of the house the band moved in and set up in the basement. On her
return, the sweet sounds of the Oriental Band started to fill the house. Boy was she
ever surprised! The Nobles felt that they did not have sufficient musette player ability
to handle a one or two hour parade. They kept running out of wind. Due to a lack of
sufficient players the Band had to disband leaving the Oriental Music to those groups
that could.

Shriners Hospitals for Children – Montreal
The Montreal Hospital save refreshment tabs as a fund raising event. I know
a lot of other worthy groups also save tabs, but since we will be going down
there in November maybe for this year only we could save the tabs for our
hospital. Bring them to our meetings and I will collect them.
