Teachers in L.A. Unified Receive Their Pay Raises
Bigger Paychecks Issued Before Summer Break Begins
LOS ANGELES - For the first time in eight years, teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School
District received today a raise in their paychecks.
The total represents a 4 percent increase retroactive to July 2014 plus a 2 percent increase
added in January of this year. This round of pay raises amount to $108 million.
The raise was a key component of the recent agreement concluded between the District and
United Teachers Los Angeles, the union representing teachers.
Nearly 37,000 union members, including teachers, guidance counselors, nurses, adult
education teachers, and substitutes, received the increase in their latest paychecks.
“These increases will help our District to remain competitive and to continue to attract the best
and the brightest candidates to serve our students and school communities,” said
Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines.
Information Technology, Human Resources, Payroll, and labor worked extensively over the past
several weeks, making sure the system could issue paychecks before teachers left for their
summer break. The last day of classes was June 4 in District schools.
“Our team did an outstanding job to get teachers their much-deserved raises in time for the
summer,” said Cortines. “I applaud all the employees who worked long hours to bring this
about.”
