Room A100 at Scarborough High School. Most of the Center’s courses are held late afternoons and evenings

W
elcome to our Fall catalog! We can offer something for everyone this semester. The focus of Adult Education in Maine has
expanded from traditional high school diploma
classes to providing community members with
pathways to career and/or college success. We
offer adult diploma/GED classes and testing
but there is a demand for vocational courses
available to residents. To that end we have submitted a Career Pathways Plan to the Department of Education outlining what steps will be
taken to promote skills training and career advising locally.
This Spring we began an English Language
Learners program in the evenings to meet the
needs of a diversified Scarborough population.
If you or someone you know could use assistance with English we hope that you will attend our Fall Open House listed in the catalog.
Adult Education will still offer an array of
enrichment classes to better your daily lives.
Please let us know if you have any suggestions
for future course offerings or if you may want
to teach a class with us. This is your program
and your input is welcomed at any time. You
can e-mail me directly at [email protected] with suggestions for program
improvement.
Respectfully,
Joan Tremberth, MS, CAS Adult Learning
Acting Director of Adult Education

Guided meditation/hypnosis offers the chance to achieve a deep
level of relaxation, enter the subconscious mind, and explore
the possibility of one’s past lives. It’s an exciting journey

GED PROGRAM
n 2014, the current paper-pencil tests will no longer be
available. The tests will be completely computer based,
with students answering questions and writing their essay on a
computer keyboard. The GED tests will be more rigorous and
based on The Common Core, a national set of standards for
students. A compelling reason for the change in tests includes a
greater demand for higher skilled workers on the national level.
With the direction of our domestic and global economy, students
with a high school diploma or GED credential are required to
hold higher academic skills that will prepare them for success in
post-secondary career training and the workforce. All students
who have begun GED testing but have not finished, are urged to
