monday note March 30th, 2015 Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Hope, Easter Excitement! In my living room hangs a special painting by a congregational member from First Lutheran Church in Kelowna. It was given to me after teaching several years at their school. The watercolour depicts Knox Mountain overlooking Okanagan Lake and is a special reminder to me of Easter. Each year before the sun rose the worship leadership would haul amps and musical instruments up the mountain in preparation for the Easter sunrise service. I'll never forget helping my husband bring up his keyboard, lawn chairs, and our three little boys bundled in their winter jackets up the hillside to prepare for what would be the most amazing sunrise. As the sun crested the horizon and lit up the sky, it was as if the entire earth rejoiced and proclaimed the majesty of our God. The warmth of the sun and the combined voices of the congregation was a mountain top experience of worship that will be forever imprinted in my mind. I can't help but share the good news of the grandeur of God who creates such beauty for our delight in order to worship our risen Saviour and receive eternal hope. The experience of witnessing the beauty of a new day reminds me of the newness we have in Jesus every day. As we walk through the events of Holy Week (Jesus sharing the last supper with his disciples, His trial, and His crucifixion on Good Friday) it is Easter that I long for. Experiencing the freedom from sin that Christ earned for us on the cross, and in his resurrection on Easter morn is what fills me with joy and peace. It is the "sonshine" of Jesus’ deep love for us that brightens even our darkest days and causes us to sing his praise. Easter Joy, Susan Eisner CHAPEL: HIGH SCHOOL WORSHIP – MR. The purpose of a Heritage Fair is to encourage students to develop an increased awareness and interest in Canadian history and heritage. It is similar to a science fair model, but asks students to create a project about Canadian heritage, history, culture, or geography. Students are able to research any aspect of Canadian history and heritage (a list of possible topics will be provided) and to present the results of their efforts using any medium of their choice. There are lots of amazing stories from across Canada as well as from right here in our own community; the possibilities are endless! This is a wonderful opportunity to have your child examine their own family background and to tell the story behind their own cultural heritage. Judging of student projects will hopefully take place in the afternoon (during school hours), and we are looking for individuals to judge student entries. If you are interested please contact Miss Nast [email protected]. Leadership Teams A variety of leadership teams for Kindergarten to grade 7 students are in place. It is our prayer that as students lead their peers they will develop leadership skills and encourage others in using the gifts that God has given to them. Gr.8-12 Badminton HLCHS is excited to announce that on Friday last week a partnership with Shuttlesport in Port Coquitlam was struck to host our High School badminton program. This is a great opportunity for our High School athletes to practice in an excellent facility in the local community. We are thankful for the beginning of this partnership and Shuttlesport’s generosity! Once all sign-up forms are collected, practice times will be released for each athletic level: Bantam, Junior, and Senior. Currently, we have practice times booked for April 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23 from 2:50 – 3:50 pm. Depending on the enrollment in the badminton program, we may see an increase to the original $15 fee per athlete to cover the facility. If increased, this fee would not exceed an additional $10 per athlete. Caption Contest The Yearbook committee wants you to get as excited as they are about this year's book. That's why they've created the Caption Contest. Here's how it works: 1. At the beginning of each month, a photograph will be posted in the Monday Note and on a box in the Commons. On this box, you will also find entry forms. 2. Fill out a form and stick it in the box. Anyone in the Hope community can enter as many captions as they want. In the interests of saving paper, we ask that you use as few entry forms as possible. There is room for more than one caption on the forms. The winner of last month's caption contest is Mr. Adam! This is an amazing opportunity for EVERYONE to contribute to the making of the 2014/15 Yearbook! There are prizes for each month's winner. In addition, all winners' names will be entered into a draw at the end of the year for an additional prize. Submit your entries for by Monday, March 30th: February's photo Floor Hockey The grade 6 and 7 girls and boys finished up their whirlwind floor hockey season just before spring break.
