Welcome back to Term 2, we hope that everyone had a restful holiday.
DATES TO REMEMBER
April

Next week the Year 10 students will participate in mock interviews. This is a wonderful
opportunity for students to develop their interviewing and presentation skills. As a College
we are grateful to the people from varying industries who give their time to participate in 
this program.

Following the interviews Year 10 students will undertake work experience during week 5 of
this term (May 18th). There are a number of students who are not able to participate in the 
work experience program and therefore they will be required to attend school during this
week.

Year 10 students will commence their subject selections for 2016/17 during the latter part of
this term. More information on this process will be available during the next few weeks. 
Many thanks to the Careers Team for their organisation of these programs.

This week the College held the first parent teacher interviews for the year. The day was very
successful with many parents/caregivers attending and obtaining feedback about their
child’s progress. I would like to thank the staff for their professionalism on the day and 
many thanks to Anne Ure, Assistant Principal, for her organisation of the day.

Next week the Year 7 students will participate in the transition program. A range of exciting
activities have been organised for students. This program will allow for the further building 

of positive relationships between students and staff.
The College is opening its doors on May 6th to our community, prospective parents and 
prospective students to allow them to interact with our teachers and students in the
classroom. This is a great opportunity for our community to experience firsthand, the

innovative and engaging learning that happens at Hampton Park Secondary College.

The last two weeks of Term 1 saw Year 7 to 10 students undertake common assessment 
tasks for their subjects. It was disappointing to note that Year 7 to 11 students absence
increased significantly during this period of time. Common assessment tasks (CATs) and 
school assessed coursework (SACs) are an important measure of student achievement at the
end of a unit of work. Teachers are then able to plan for how best to meet the needs of 
students based on the CAT results. The College is investigating why the student absence 
increased during this time and we will report back to the College Council and community
with recommendations for the future.

LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF!
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in
having new eyes”. (Marcel Proust, 19th century novelist)
Volunteer to host an international high school student through Southern Cross
Cultural Exchange and prepare to be amazed at how this unique and rewarding
experience can help bring your family together, understand themselves better and
see the world in a new light.
We have students aged 15-18 arriving from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and
Scandinavia in July 2015 who are seeking welcoming families all over Australia, in
both rural and urban communities. They will live like a local, attend a local
secondary school, arrive with their own spending money and comprehensive
insurance cover – all arranged by Southern Cross Cultural Exchange.
