Rule 1.14(a) of the Rules of the Supreme Court of the State
of Hawaii (“RSCH”) requires that each person licensed
to practice law after July 1, 2001, shall, no later than
December 31 of the year following the year of election of
active status, complete the Hawai‘i Professionalism Course
conducted under the joint sponsorship of the Hawai‘i State
Bar Association (“HSBA”) and the Supreme Court of Hawai‘i.

Failure to complete this course within the time period
specified shall result in automatic suspension of the license to
practice law. The mandatory Hawaii Professionalism Course
is traditionally administered only twice a year, in June and
November on the island of Oahu. In-person attendance is
required.
RSCH 22, which requires that all active members of HSBA
take 3 credits of mandatory Continuing Legal Education
(“CLE”), exempts newly licensed members from the CLE
requirement during the year of admission. For additional
information about the CLE requirements as set forth in RSCH
22, please visit the CLE page on the HSBA website.
Please familiarize yourself with RSCH 1.14, RSCH 22, and
RSCH 17.
