Holy Trinity Catholic Church
Liturgy
The Sacred Paschal Triduum
and Good Friday
The main liturgical observance today is called the
Celebration of the Passion of the Lord. It is not a
Mass. The entire liturgy unfolds in three parts: the
Liturgy of the Word, the adoration of the cross, and
Holy Communion. The liturgy begins with the
priests and deacons, (at Holy Trinity, we include our
Adult Servers) process in silence, reverence the altar
and prostrate (lay down) and/or kneel and pray in
silence. All others kneel. After a moment, all rise.
The Liturgy continues with the Collect (opening
prayer). You might notice that Father doesn’t say
Let us pray. The readings follow, including the
reading of the Passion account according to St.
John. At Holy Trinity the priest and deacon will
proclaim the Gospel, without procession and candles
or incense. The assembly will join in by singing a
refrain at different points in the Gospel
proclamation.
After the homily, we have the Solemn Intercessions;
ten intercessions that can be accompanied by Let us
kneel...Let us stand. The solemn adoration of the
cross takes place after the intercessions; previously
known as veneration of the cross (notice it doesn’t
say crucifix). The deacon and ministers will process
in with a single cross, stopping three times as we
sing Behold the Wood of the Cross… Everyone will
then have the opportunity to adore the cross.
Though this Liturgy is not a Mass, we will have the
opportunity to receive communion following the
Lord’s Prayer. The liturgy concludes with a prayer
following communion and a blessing. Then, all will
depart in SILENCE. You may notice that there is no
dismissal at this liturgy, like there is none at the end
of the Holy Thursday celebration. We receive the
dismissal of these three days of Liturgy at the Easter
Vigil. More on that next week.
Have a beautiful Lent.

Weekly Faith Sharing
We recommend that parish households set aside a specific
time each week to pray, read the scriptures for the liturgy
you celebrated this weekend, reflect and discuss the
Scriptures using the question we offer as a starting point.
Gospel ~ John 12:20–33
Question ~ When have you felt stronger because
you sacrificed something for a friend or
member of your family?

Living Stations of the Cross
Friday, March 27th at 7 PM
Come reflect on the Passion of Christ on Friday,
March 27th at 7 PM in the church. This Lenten
devotional of the Stations of the Cross will be reenacted
by children of the parish. Immediately following the
Stations will be Benediction.
Message to Our Entire Parish:
Let us all remember that
the way we welcome
children in Church directly
affects the way they
respond to Church, to
God and to the one
another -- while they are
little and as they grow up. Let them know that they are
at home in this house of worship and that they are loved.
The presence of children is a beautiful gift to the church
and these little ones are a reminder that our parish
family is growing. So please join us in thanking God for
the parents who love their children enough to bring
them to church and - with a smile of encouragement-welcome the young families that are truly the present
and future of our faith community.
Listen Assist Improvements!
We've made improvements to our
Listen Assist system to help those
that have difficulty hearing during
mass. If you'd like to try one out,
please let one of our ushers or
church ministers know. If you need
further help, please contact Jeremy at 913-895-0646.
