Tired at Work? Join the Club
Fatigue in the workplace can be a serious
issue. A survey commissioned by energy-drink maker Red Bull & jobs site
Glassdoor found that 48% of the U.S.
workforce is distracted by weariness on
the job. 66% confessed to mistakes at
work due to fatigue, 21% said they’ve
missed meetings, 16%t have blown a
deadline, and 41% have forgotten items
at home needed on the job. As much as
they may need more sleep, most workers
aren’t taking exhaustion lying down.
93% of survey respondents indicated
they take some action to
regain their drive, with 66%
depending on coffee, &
others on energy drinks.
With gasoline prices down,
Americans have a little extra
money in their pockets.
According to the CBS News website, it
adds up to about $1,000 per household
over the past year. And what are most
people doing with it—buying lottery
tickets, splurging on a new big-screen TV,
or spending it elsewhere?
No, actually a lot of us are saving it. A
survey by Visa found that half of U.S.
consumers are putting their extra dollars
away, spurring a rise in the savings rate
from 4.3% to 4.9% at the end of last year.
Experts suggest this behavior may be
prompted by still-fresh memories of the
2008 recession.

Tips for Modern Living
 Never feed bread to
ducks. They can not
digest it properly & it
could kill ‘em
 Running bacon under
cold water before cooking will reduce shrinkage by 50%
 Marshmallows relieve toothaches,
asthma, sore throats & arthritis.
 Putting a small amount of 7 Up in a
flower vase will preserve ‘em longer
 Use the bottom portion of a 2 liter
pop bottle to make flavored ice
‘flowers’ for your punch bowl
 Falling air pressure causes pain in
birds’ ears …. So if you notice birds
flying low it’s likely a thunderstorm is
approaching
 Smelling rubbing alcohol can relieve
nausea almost instantly.

Of the 2.1 million farmers today, 120,000 are
younger than 35; average age is 58; although
‘local’ is inspiring more young folks to farm
Per the USDA, a product transported less than
400 miles from its origin qualifies it as locally or
regionally produced; food sold within the same
state is also considered local
Farmer’s markets have grown 74% to ~8,000 in
the last 5 years. Calif is #1 with 759, & along
with WI, IL, IA, MI, MO, OH, PA, NY, NC, & SC
account for half.
Worldwide (for now), there is enough food to go
around, the problem is access … which is denied
due to: war, restrictive leaders, economic
swings, erratic weather & natural disasters, and
poor infrastructure.

The moon has long been regarded as a
mark of femininity. In past times the moon
was revered & is considered by many as
an influential source of energy. Many individuals are also of the belief that there is a
connection between the moon and the
unconscious mind as well as humanity’s
femininity. The holiness of the moon is
also believed to be linked with most elements in a life’s cycle. Besides being associated to the growth & re-growth of
crops according to their timely seasons,
the moon’s varying phases is also seen to
play an important part in a female’s cycle
& thus, indirectly have power over fertility.
Since the beginning of time, the moon calendar holds a vital role in people’s lives
especially as varying festivals are celebrated in its different phases.

Odds & Ends
- In early days of commercial airlines &
federal air routes, large (up to 70 ft.)
concrete arrows (brightly colored) were
laid out across the country ~15 miles
apart & illuminated by beacons at
night. Pilots at low altitude (under 3000
ft) could see from one to the next. Some
still are languishing about in case you
run across one.
- Wonder about those pools in California
with their current drought problems. Seems
they waste less water than a traditional
lawn as they are filled once, surrounded by
deck area which requires no water, & with
a cover to prevent evaporation use less
than drought tolerant landscape. Dive In!
