FROM OUR PRINCIPAL…
Dear Parents:
We are going strong as the school year progresses! Many exciting things have been happening on our campus these past
few months, and we are looking forward to many exciting events in the coming months.
Student Recognition
During February and March we had several opportunities to recognize student achievement in activities, academics, and
athletics. Distinguished Students enjoyed a Renaissance Carnival on February 28, and their second semester special
assembly on March 28 to see Chinese Acrobats. In order to attend these events, Distinguished Students had to present
their “DS”-stamped student ID cards. Teachers’ Choice Awards were March 24 (teachers select students generally with
a focus on student improvement) and Academic Achievement Awards (for students with a cumulative 3.8+ GPA on a 5.0
-scale and students who participated on academic teams such as Academic Decathlon, Mock Trial, GAPP) were March
31. Many students were recognized. Graduation will be on June 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
Drama Presents
Our amazing ACHS Drama Department opened their spring production of “It Runs in the Family” on April 3. The production ran for 6 nights and the audience reviews claimed it was hilarious!
Pool News
The new Scorpion Aquatic Center is now open and being used on a daily basis! Our Grand Opening / Ribbon Cutting took
place on February 18th, and many people were in attendance on that ACHS history-making day. Mr. Lipman and the administration jumped in the pool with the swim teams during the festivities! Once the groundbreaking took place, the entire
complex was completed in 10 months, right on schedule. ACHS and our community will enjoy the benefits of this complex
for many years to come.
Spring Testing
CAHSEE Testing: Sophomores (make-ups only), Juniors and Seniors who need to take the CAHSEE may do so on May
13 and 14.
STAR Testing: STAR testing has been replaced with Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) testing. This SBA testing will
be used throughout the entire country for a more uniform testing of our students’ knowledge.
Advanced Placement Testing: Advanced Placement (AP) testing will occur between May 5 and 16.
Final Exams: Final Exams will be June 10 – June 12, from 8:00am – 12:26pm. Senior Finals will be June 5, 6, 9.

Have a great summer!
It’s hard to believe that the end of this school year is right around the corner. Our hard work has
paid off! Not only did we have successful programs during the year, we made donations totaling
nearly $24,000 (to date) to ACHS for classroom academic enrichment:
6 Smart Boards and Document Cameras for classrooms: $22,800
10 Texas Instrument Graphing Calculators for classroom use: $1,126
There’s still a little more time before this school year ends, so we hope to make additional cash
donations to the school for enrichment. Additionally, our volunteer hour contribution to ACHS,
using the California State Volunteer Hour Rate of $24.75, is valued at nearly $100,000 to date!
Safe & Sober After Prom Party
Planning for our “NEW & IMPROVED” 24th Annual Safe and Sober After Prom Party is underway.
It begins immediately after the Senior Prom until 4:00am on May 18 th at the Roxy Theatre in
Camarillo and will be filled with non-stop fun, live entertainment, prizes and lots of food. Many
volunteers and donations are needed to provide a safe, fun environment for our Seniors and their
Prom guests wishing to continue their celebration with their classmates. Seniors who do not attend Prom are welcome to join the fun. Tickets are on sale now!
If you are able to help with the final stages of planning, volunteer or donate (prizes, food, gifts,
your entertainment talent, etc), please contact our After Prom Committee Co-Chairs, Linda Hall &
Debbie Callaway, at [email protected]
We Appreciate You!
Thank you to all the ACHS families and Camarillo community businesses who generously donated to our fundraisers, programs, staff luncheons and treats, and other events. We could not
have achieved what we did without your generous support.
Thank you, Mr. Lipman and your entire staff, for supporting our efforts throughout the year. The
combination of our collaborative efforts, our honest and open communication, and our common
goal of enhancing the social and academic high school experience for our ACHS students contributed to our success.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU to our 2013–14 PTSA Executive Board and to all who served on our
Committees during the year. Without your dedication, creativity, talent, generosity and kindness,
we would not have accomplished as much as we did! Together, we made a difference for our
students and for ACHS. Thank you!
Planning for 2014-15
Congratulations to our newly elected Officers! I am excited that all grades, including incoming
Freshmen, are represented. Planning for the 2014-15 school year has already started. If you
have ideas, suggestions, are interested in becoming more involved in our PTSA next year or
have questions, please email me at [email protected]
Please join us at our next PTSA meetings on May 6 th and June 10th at 6:30pm in the ACHS
Library.
Thanks for a great year!
