CEAN CAMPUS SUMMER SCHOOL Coastal Meteorology and Oceanography João teixeira João Teixeira obtained his Licentiate (in Geophysical Sciences) and Doctor (in Meteorology) degrees from the University of Lisbon, in Portugal. He was at the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the US Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), and the NATO Undersea Research Center (NURC), before joining the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which is part of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Currently he is Deputy Director of the JPL Center for Climate Sciences, the AIRS instrument Science Team Leader and Supervisor of the Climate Physics Group. He is also a Visiting Associate and a Lecturer in Environmental Science & Engineering at Caltech. His research Interests are in turbulence, clouds and climate. He uses a variety of models and observations to understand the interactions between the climate system and small-scale processes, such as turbulence, convection and clouds - to improve climate prediction. He was recently awarded the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal.
