Tour – Seminar Modern Landscaping Ideas of the
Historical Park (Guide - Antanas Sebeckas)
The park, which is known as the Palanga Botanical Park, was
created in the surroundings of the sacred Birutė forest by Count Feliksas
Tiškevičius in (1895 – 1898). The symbolic date of the establishment of
the Park is considered the 1897. The instigator of the project was the
famous French landscape architect Edouard Francois André (1840 –
1911, who spent several summers in Palanga with his son Rene Eduard
Andre (1867 - 1942) supervising the construction of the park. The
Belgian gardener Jules Buyssens assisted them.
In 2013, the complex reconstruction of this park was started. By
means of modern tools and technologies, the former greatness of the
park was restored. The infrastructure was updated, the main pond was
cleaned, the structure of plantings was transformed, the fountain was
repaired, the new marble vases and fences were constructed, the new
lamps were installed, the landscape entrance from the central Vytautas
Street and from other ones was tidied. The historical name of Birute was
returned to one of the most beautiful and most unique parks in
Lithuania. Antanas Sebeckas, the former director of park, will
accompany participants of the conference all over the renewed park and
will help you discover unique accents of it.
