Illinoisans for Growth and Opportunity Announces Collecting $14 Million
Illinoisans for Growth and Opportunity (IllinoisGO) today announced collecting a combined $14
million for its 501c(4) organization and independent expenditure committee.
$5.5 million will go to support issue advocacy and public education efforts to encourage
legislative leaders and lawmakers to make the tough, but necessary, decisions to resolve Illinois’
financial crisis, while $8.5 million in funds are for the IllinoisGO independent expenditure
committee to directly engage in political activity.
New IllinoisGO IE donors include John and Laura Arnold and Chicago businessman Matt
Hulsizer. The Arnolds are longtime Democratic donors and supporters of educating
policymakers and the public nationwide about the nature of problems related to underfunded
pensions and developing structural reforms that are comprehensive, sustainable and fair.
“Supporters are lining up behind IllinoisGO because they understand how critical it is that our
lawmakers make the difficult, but responsible choices to get our state back on track,” said
IllinoisGO Chairman Anthony K. Anderson. “For too long the special interests have controlled
the legislative majorities in Springfield. IllinoisGO is committed to changing the dynamic and
holding lawmakers accountable for their actions.”
“IllinoisGO continues to build the resources we need to educate the public and lawmakers on our
huge fiscal challenges and defend the lawmakers who make the tough, but necessary, decisions
during upcoming budget negotiations,” noted IllinoisGO executive director, Greg Goldner.
