The closing date for applications to be received by Worcestershire County Council is 31st October 2013. Year 8 HPV Injection Letters – returned by Monday 21st October All Year 8 girls have been issued with a consent form, information leaflet and covering letter to take home. These provide information with regard to the HPV vaccine programme carried out for girls aged 12 – 13. The injection gives protection against the commonest cause of cervical cancer for many years to come. As the letter explains, if you would like more details you can go to the website www.immunisation.nhs.uk/hpv or contact the school nurse, your GP or practice nurse. The form provided has two boxes on it and, depending on whether you want your daughter to have the injection or not, one of these boxes should be signed by someone with parental responsibility and returned to the school office by Monday 21st October. Librarians Congratulations to the following pupils who have joined the team of BHMS Librarians headed by Julia Newman (8C). Julia is now ably assisted by two deputy librarians, Ceara Campbell (7V) and Emily Holmes (8A) as well as six additional librarians: Sadie Ashmead (7C), Daisy Clayton (8V), Emma Getting (8V), Millie Hanlon (8V), Evie Leedham (7H) and Talia Morrison (7H). The types of bottle tops we can accept are shampoo and gel lids, milk bottle tops, fizzy drinks and squash tops, coffee and gravy granule lids but we cannot accept any metal lids. If you have any bottle tops, please send them to either Charlotte Barr (8C) in Room 7 or Tyler Arthurs (8B) in Room 10. Thank you very much. Parental Reminder If you drop off your child at the beginning of the day and/or collect them again at the end of the day, can we please remind you not to park in the turning circle or on the yellow non-parking zone lines just outside the school gates. As I am sure you will appreciate, this not only causes ‘traffic jams’ but is also important for the safety of pupils and all other members of the wider BHMS community. Mr Charlton Privacy Notices – Data Protection Act 1998 A letter with regard to the Data Protection Act has been given to all our new pupils to take home. A copy of this can also be accessed on our website www.bredon.worcs.sch.uk. If you haven't paid a deposit but are still interested in joining us on the trip, there are still a few places left. If you are interested but would like to ask a few questions first, then please contact Mr Sheridan or Miss Getvoldsden. BHMS Sports Report Double Netball Success vs St Egwins The Year 7 netball team captained by Abbie James (7V) played St Egwins on Tuesday. They won 15-0 with outstanding performances from Alisha Large (7A) in defence and Evie Hardy (7A) in the centre. The Year 8 team captained by Zoe Taite (8B) also played St Egwins on Tuesday and won a very close and tense match 10-9. Players of the match were Lydia Webster (8C) in defence and Cassarena Ferreira (8C) at Goal Shooter. Congratulations and well played to all those involved. Year 7 Boys’ Football Our Year 7 boys’ football team came up against Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat School in the second round of the National Cup competition. In a really exciting game, after going 2-0 down at half time, the boys showed great resilience, effort and quality to win through 4 : 2. Year 8 Boys’ Football Unfortunately, our Year 8 boys’ football team came up against strong opposition in their match this week against St Egwins Middle School. Despite a lot of hard work on their part, they eventually lost 2 : 4. Under 13 Girls’ Football Team It was a case of ‘Lucky 7s’ for our U13 girls’ football team as last week saw them take part in two matches, one against St Egwins Middle School and the other against Waseley Hills High School in the County Cup. Our girls were the dominant team in each match, dictating the play and triumphing in some style, managing to score 7 goals in each game. Congratulations to all the girls involved. More Nifty Netballers The Year 6 and 7 Netball teams travelled to Pinvin yesterday for their first fixture of the year vs St Nicholas. The Year 7 team played well and drew 6-6. Player of the match was Mia Gittens (7B). The Year 6 team drew the first half against a Year 6 side 7-7 but struggled when St Nicholas bolstered their team with a few Year 7 players and eventually lost 13-7. Player of the match was Amaya Feeney (6B) who battled on despite hurting her knee in the first quarter.
