AUTUMN TERM | WEEK 6 Thursday 9th October, 2014 GENERAL NEWS THOMAS TROPHY – Last Friday, approximately 500 runners from 20 schools around the South East took part in our annual Thomas Trophy cross country event in beautiful sunshine. The day was a huge success for the whole school, with all of our senior school pupils taking part as runners, supporters or marshalls. There were six different races across three age groups. Our girls’ team did superbly well and finished in 2nd place overall. Our boys’ team finished in a credible 7th place. A special well done must go to our medal winners: Olivia Breed (U9 Gold), Ethan Page (U11 Bronze) and Darcey Friend (U13 Silver). SENIOR SCHOOLS’ FAIR – Our first Senior Schools’ Fair will be held in the main Hall on from 3.00 – 7.00pm. Over 25 schools will be represented and it will be a great chance to speak to a variety of schools about the opportunities available at each. The fair is open to all parents from The Prep and the local community so do please spread the word! WALKIES! – Dog owners and all walkers are invited to join an organised stroll through Knole Park on Tuesday 14th October at 9.00 am, followed by tea and coffee in The Oakery. Walkers should meet by the cricket nets on the school field. All are welcome but please note that the route is not pram friendly. Donations to the Development Fund would be gratefully received. DEVELOPMENT GOLF DAY – The sun shone for our first Sevenoaks Prep Development Golf Day at Knole Park Golf Club on Friday. 52 Players enjoyed the beautiful and challenging course before 20 others joined for a 3 course lunch, auction and prize giving. Many thanks to all who supported and who helped to raise over £11,500 for the Development Fund and congratulations to The Amateurs on their win! TENNIS CLUB – There will be no tennis club after school next Friday, 17th October. FOOTBALL CAMP - Boys and girls in Years 2-8 are invited to join a football camp at The Prep on Friday 31st October. A booking form will be going home in school bags. Please register early to avoid disappointment. SALVATION ARMY - The children and staff are busy designing Christmas tea towels to raise money for The Salvation Army. Order forms will come home Thursday 9th October, 2014 AUTUMN TERM | WEEK 6 soon and there will be a Christmas theme to the tea towels. There will be Junior and a Senior tea towels available. EASYFUNDRAISING.ORG.UK – If you make any purchases online, please set up an Easyfundraising account very quickly which will allow the school to benefit from your online shopping made with a large number of retailers including Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Waitrose and eBookers. FIRE STATION – Form 2 pupils visited Sevenoaks Fire Station on Tuesday. They were taken on a fascinating tour during which they explored the inside of a fire engine and tried directing water from a heavy hose. BORE PLACE – Kindergarten children learnt about dairy farming, growing seeds and composting during their trip to Bore Place on Monday. DAN CLEWS – Former pupil Dan Clews will be taking to the airwaves on BBC Radio 2 in the early hours of Sunday morning. He will be playing a few songs and chatting to Bob Harris from 1.00 am. SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS RUNNING CLUB – There will be no running club after school today, Thursday, owing to Miss Lovegrove’s absence and the IAPS Cross Country at Somerhill. LES VACANCES - Year 7 pupils had an early start today for their two day trip to Bayeux, France. They are visiting the town, the cathedral and the famous tapestry. 11+ MEETING FOR YEAR 6 PARENTS – This will take place on Tuesday 14th October at 4.15 pm. KNOLE RUN – The U13 Knole Run at Sevenoaks School will take place on Friday 21st November. TOP TABLE – Congratulations to this week’s Top Table award winners: Rafferty, James, Sophie, Tommy, Beatrice, Holly, Oliver, Noah, Ewan, Rufus, Ed, Theo, Ted Tilly, Tristan and Harry. JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS HARVEST FESTIVAL –On Friday we will be holding a Harvest Festival assembly. Families have been asked to kindly donate food items to the harvest hampers which will be delivered by Form 2 pupils to the Age UK daycentre in Sevenoaks. If you would like to make a donation, please bring it into school before 9.00 am on Friday. PREP FUN FACT!
