Put a Cook Children’s specialist
in your pocket with a podcast
The lengths that Cook Children’s will go to in educating parents and caregivers keeps on growing. From the wedoitallforkids.com blog to Facebook to
the Kids Checkup iPhone app to a new frontier: Kids Checkup podcast.
Through the Kids Checkup podcasts, parents just need to press play to get
useful information from our vast team of experts on topics moms and dads
need to know, such as the importance of heart screenings, dental care, nutritional balance, etc.
The podcasts are free and available as MP3 files for download on the Cook Children’s website, as well as
downloadable from iTunes. On iTunes, parents simply need to search for “kids checkup” and they will be the first
set listed in the ‘Podcasts’ section.
Here is a look at what podcasts are currently available.

Nothing but the tooth (Tonya Fuqua, D.D.S.): If you notice a problem or you have concerns with your baby’s
teeth or mouth, then you obviously need to see a dentist prior to that time. But by the first birthday, it’s time
to get your baby a dentist for a good evaluation.
Quick heart screen eases minds, saves lives (Matthew Dzurik, M.D.): Most kids who have cardiac arrest or
sudden death while playing sports show no warning signs of anything being wrong. Fortunately, there is a
way to find out that your child is OK. A heart screen.
What do I do when my child is sick? (Catherine
Nicholas, M.D.): As often happens with children,
(what’s on your playlists?)
something might pop up in the middle of the night
or over the weekend and you have to decide what
to do on your own.

In the spotlight: Partners in Our Promise
Durant Toyota and Jerry Durant Toyota
Corporate giving is essential to helping Cook Children’s fulfill our promise. Many corporations partner with
us through financial gifts, in-kind donations or product promotions. These Partners in our Promise are committed
to keeping our community’s children healthy and safe.
We woud like to recognize and thank one of these partners: Durant Toyota in Weatherford and Jerry Durant
Toyota in Granbury. These two car dealerships should be applauded for their commitment to Cook Children’s,
specifically, their support of our Child Life Zone. They realize that providing a safe and special retreat for our
patients to relax, express themselves musically and have fun is an important part of the healing process. Whether
patients play video games with friends or write a song with Sonny Burgess, the Child Life Zone is a place to just
be a kid - and the DURANT organization wants to be a part of that initiative.
“Cook Children’s is a huge part of the community and many people have been touched by the work
that goes on here. Our employees know that Cook Children’s is a great cause and we are excited about our
partnership,” said Kevin Reeves with Durant Toyota.
Durant Toyota and Jerry Durant Toyota are donating a portion of their proceeds from every car sold in 2013
to Cook Children’s. Thank you to Jerry Durant and his team for their donation of $6,000 for the month of January
and for their passionate support of our patients.
