7
As we pause to celebrate nine years of ministry, I cannot begin to express the magnitude of awe that dwells within at this
pivotal point in our church s history. Nonetheless, I can boldly
say that God has truly been good to Love Life. A retrospective
reflection of my recent trip to South Africa only reinforces just
how good God has been. I celebrate each of you, and even
those who have moved on, because I know that God has sent
people to make ministry happen. As a result, souls have been saved and lives have been
changed. He has allowed us to break ground on our new Administrative Offices and Educare Complex, and He is preparing us to move into new realms of marketing so that we
can continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way in which we have never experienced before. What a mighty God we serve!
This year s theme could not be more appropriate. Because the number nine represents
completeness and fullness, we must understand that God has brought us to a level of
spiritual maturity that empowers us to, indeed, be Centered in Christ, Faithful in Scripture, and United in Outreach. God admonishes us in Matthew 5:48, Be ye therefore
perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. This scripture reminds us
that it is His will for us to have a complete love that allows us to embrace those who love
us as well as those who do not.
I am grateful that within our nine-year journey our Father has prepared us for such a time
as this. We ve labored hard and prayed long, but it was worth every moment. Now is the
time to push forth with Christ as our focal point, an adherence to the Word, and a renewed fervor to reach those outside of the four walls of the church. Yes, the challenge is
great. But we are ever grateful that God has entrusted us with the challenge. Love Life, I
encourage you to stay strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. He has been with
us, and I know that He will continue to be with us as we bring light into a pit of darkness,
peace into a sea confusion and love into a world of hate.
Sincerely,
Grace C. Washington M.Div.

Raising a new Standard...
On Tuesday, February 14, 2006, 7 members of the Love Life family traveled to the

The conference began each day with intercessory prayer and a rousing Praise &

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION NUGGETS
Many parents are in need of suggestions
for giving their children a Christian Education without leaning completely on
the Church to provide strategies that can
be lovingly implemented in the home. Recently, I read Caryl Waller Wheeler's book
which is entitled 365 Ways to Love Your
Child. The following five paraphrased excerpts from the book may be helpful while
educating your children in a Christian manner.
DON'T FEAR DISCIPLINE
Being a parent is not a popularity contest,
so do not be afraid to guide your children. If
you truly love them, you will want what is in
their best interest. Help them to know the
difference between right and wrong, honesty and cheating, sexuality and sex,
peace and violence, democracy and pushi-
ness, caring and apathy.
COMMUTER LOVE
When you are being the chauffeur, and
especially when there is one of your children in the car, use the time for confidential talk. Don't waste these moments by
driving in silence or listening to the radio.
Instead talk about hopes and dreams, and
how much you love your child. Avoid using
the occasions for accusations, corrections,
or interrogations. Let them be times of casual, loving conversations and teachings.
I highly recommend that parents make the
creative handbook, 365 Ways to Love Your
Child, an addition to the family's library.
You and your children will be blessed!
Thursday Evening:
Host: Bishop Jonathan Alvarado
Praise & Worship: Rodney Posey w/
Jonathan Nelson & Purpose
Speaker: Pastor Jamal Bryant
The conference culminated on Friday evening with the 2006 Gospel Heritage Foundation Awards Show. The show was
hosted by Pastor Donnie McClurkin and
Kelly Price. The Honorees were Tramaine
Hawkins, The Barrett Sisters, Rev. Clay
Evans, and The Winans.
There were special musical performances
by Tye Tribbett, Karen Clark-Sheard, Kim
Burrell, Lonnie Hunter, Water Hawkins,
Daryl Coley, Bishop Larry Trotter, Witness,
Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music, 7
Sons of Soul, and Rance Allen.
The conference was a truly blessed praise
and worship experience and I feel that
each of Love Life s delegates was touched
in a mighty way by our attendance. We are
looking forward to raising a new standard
of praise at Love Life.

Love Life s Black History
Love Life celebrated Black History Month in
the usual spirit of excellence. The main
focus of the activities was to impact and
influence the church family to become
more intentional in remembering
and emulating the positive attributes and
contributions of Black Americans, not for
just the month of February, but throughout
each day of the year.
During each of February's 10:45 a.m. Worship Services, presentations were made.
Carlos Bynoe began the celebration with
an inspirational talk about the life of Coretta
Scott King in conjunction with a video compilation of her life by Nelson Gray. Suzanne
Walker eloquently reviewed the life of Rosa
Parks, the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement, and Kalen Robinson gave an outstanding dramatic oratory entitled, "A

The reading of the New Testament was such a
wonderful success that there were
many suggestions made that times be set for
the oral reading of the entire Old Testament. Since a part of our motto for 2006 is
"Faithful to Scripture," that is indeed an appropriate goal for the Ministry. Stay tuned in!
The Intercessory Prayer Ministry held an all

New Testament and prayer requests were honored.

Love Life s New Nursery!!
Under the leadership of Sister Monica Swann, Love Life has opened a muchanticipated Nursery during the 10:45 am worship service. The nursery provides care,
supervision, and fun activities for the young children (6 months to 3 years old) while
parents are able to enjoy the worship service. While in the nursery, the children are
able to participate in fun activities that are designed to entertain, engage, and inspire
them.
All families are welcome to participate!!!!

Fasting for
Fasting - What is it?
What is fasting? Biblically, fasting is abstaining from food, drink, sleep or sex to
focus on a period of spiritual growth. Specifically, we humbly deny something of the
flesh to glorify God, enhance our spirit, and
go deeper in our prayer life.
Spiritual Growth
Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when the fasting is from food. Fasting is not intended to
punish our flesh, but to focus on God.
fast, put oil on your head and wash your
face, so that it will not be obvious to men
that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who
sees what is done in secret, will reward
you" (Matthew 6:16-18).
Fasting is more than denying ourselves
food or something else of the flesh - it's a
sacrificial lifestyle before God. In Isaiah 58,
we learn what a "true fast" is. It's not just a
one-time act of humility and denial before
God, it's a lifestyle of servant ministry to
others. As Isaiah tells us, fasting encourages humility, loosens the chains of injustice, unties the chords of the yoke, frees
the oppressed, feeds the hungry, provides
for the poor, and clothes the naked. This

Fasting is a recommended part of our spiritual growth. The Book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important
decisions (Acts 13:4; 14:23). Fasting and
prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37;
5:33). Too often, however, the focus of
fasting is on the lack of food. The purpose
of fasting is to take our eyes off the things
of this world and instead focus on God.
Fasting should not be considered a "dieting
method" either. We shouldn't fast to lose
weight, but to gain deeper fellowship with
God. Some may not be able to fast from
food (diabetics, for example), but everyone
can temporarily give up something in order
to focus on God. Even unplugging the television for a period of time can be an effective fast.
