The War Against Bugs in the Defense of Our Country! The Client This Government Agency provides personnel, pensions, welfare and support services to members of its department, other stakeholders and their dependents. Software quality is important for all businesses, but for this government agency it is of paramount importance. Its technology infrastructure and software applications are highly complex and critical to the defence of its host nation. The Challenge Our Customers Views “We plan to build our future testing strategy very much on the testing roadmap developed to date across the account, and use the rich heritage of our investment in future work, continuing to invest and benefit accordingly. ” There were numerous challenges we faced, these were: • • • • • We picked up a Programme in mid-flight from an incumbent vendor A contractual commitment was made to deliver to the same timescale as the incumbent No requirements existed and consequently tests were not mapped or properly documented The ALM tools were out of date and on unsupported versions of the product We were not allowed to speak to internal SME staff for 4-months or colleagues to be as they were officially under contract to the incumbent vendor The complete lack of requirements coverage matrix led to an inability to make fact based statements of truth about the software quality and it was headline making news if we did not deliver on-time and to quality expected. And finally, even though timescales, software quality and performance were the key drivers for the project; the solution still had to provide a realistic Return on Investment (RoI) “Performance of Infuse and their SI partner have been excellent. They are very professional and have delivered exactly what they said they would.” Technology Used © Infuse Consulting 2002-2013 | Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre | Broad Sanctuary | London | SW1P 3EE | UK | Tel: +44 (0) 20 7025 8714 | Fax: +44 (0) 20 7106 9373 | http://www.infuse.it Application Software Specialist 2013 Solution Highlights So what did we do? Infuse Consulting and SI team up to rescue an out of control Oracle E-business R11 to R12 upgrade Together with our SI partner we did the following: • How? We conducted a thorough due diligence using a testing assessment model called (Testing Maturity Model (TMMi) we chose this as it was vendor agnostic and focused on delivery to identify our testing issues •We then implemented a process improvement plan after the TMMi assessment against the following criteria: • Would it help us deliver on it payback after By using the Test Assessment Method called TMMi • By using the industry-leading test automation technology, useMango™ This enabled Infuse and the SI to deliver the project: time? • Would it give return on investment? • Would • go-live? • On time • Within budget • At a fixed priced and with 50% fewer resources • We worked with the system users to capture front-end business processes in video and prioritised the business processes for input in System Integration Testing (SIT) and performance testing • a thorough understanding of the business impact and applications under test and be able to re-use some of these outputs (test results) for the subsequent performance tests. We upgraded and integrated all the ALM tools and implemented useMango™ to automate 90% of the business processes and run them in Benefits iterative test cycles in prioritised order over SIT The key measurable benefits from this Tech Refresh have been: • What did this enable us to do? By involving the Customer earlier in the • process - they understood what we were going to test first and why we were testing it, so they understood the quality of the results • and we understood their business processes. • It enabled the project team to make fact- • based judgments on software quality so that • improvements could be made strategically on areas of risk and not in a reactive • manner without requiring guess-work • • It enabled us to test the most important business processes many times during System Integration Testing. We delivered the programme on-time and the testing on-budget. We secured the reputation of ourselves, our partner and our customer. We delivered it with 50% of the testing resources for a manual testing approach for a fixed price Future test cycles reduced by 75% We enabled the programme to deliver 50% more programmes of changes We enabled the ability to test business processes during development capturing major business defects earlier at 1/10th of the cost • We were able to move rapidly into the Build and Deploy phases of test automation with Contact us for more information Infuse Consulting 2002-2013 | Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre | Broad Sanctuary | London | SW1P 3EE | UK | Tel: +44 (0) 20 7025 8714 | Fax: +44 (0) 20 7106 9373 | http://www.infuse.it
