UNDERSTANDING INLINGUA ENGLISH LEVELS
The inlingua General Purpose Program (GPP) is a comprehensive program in general English designed to meet the language
learning needs of adults and young adults. The GPP starts from a zero level of English proficiency, providing students with the
grammar and vocabulary necessary for basic communication, and leads up to the C2 level of the Common European Framework of
Reference (CEF), level 4 of the ILR language proficiency scale, and the full range of TOEFL and TOEIC scores. All inlingua English
programs take advantage of the inlingua GPP curriculum and lesson plans, which are used at all 300 inlingua Language Centers
throughout the world.

inlingua’s English programs have been carefully designed to conform to U.S. government norms (the ILR Language Proficiency Skill
Level Descriptions and Scale), the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF), and specific bands of TOEIC and TOEFL iBT
scores, in addition to other language proficiency scales and frameworks.
