INST Outreach
Programme
Chairman's Message
INST has initiated a unique outreach programme with an objective to encourage
students of rural and remote areas to pursue education and overall development
through interesting presentation about nature, simple inventions and outstanding
changes brought about in the history of mankind. Thus the aim is growth and
development of these rural/semi-urban areas with participation of the children
and youth. Outreach will help in promoting science and technology across the
country. It has been a personal privilege for me to see Outreach grow from its
modest beginnings to the dynamic, ambitious and creative programme it is today.
I saw it grow and change shape, but one thing remained constant: the conviction
of promoting science in the corners of the country. Outreach has embarked upon
an exciting project in which over thousands young people from schools and
colleges across the country will enhance their knowledge by attending workshops
in our Institute which will inculcate in them the interest in doing something
meaningful in life. Only systematic and persistent work can ensure that students
grasp the immense impact of technology, as young minds remain a mighty symbol
of hope for our country. We have covered a wide range of activities that have taken
place in past few months of our outreach programme in 2014. This brochure
provides an insight into how day after day this promise has turned into a reality
and is progressing in the right direction. The future belongs to young people and
since India has a huge proportion of youth, India has a great future if it is directed
towards positive goals.

ABOUT
INST OUTREACH PROGRAMME
With the objective to promote science and technology among young
generation of the nation, Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST) has
taken a step forward by introducing an outreach programme especially for
rural, remote and under-served schools as they typically have a more limited
budget. Our goal is to get science out of the textbook and help to develop a
genuine interest and stronger skills in science. Through this outreach effort,
we hope to spark the interest of the future generation of scientists and
engineers on which our nation depends. We are committed to inspiring
curiosity, imparting knowledge and encouraging creativity in the minds of
tomorrow s scientists, technologist and entrepreneurs. Under this program,
our scientists are visiting different schools/ colleges and inspiring young
minds by delivering lectures about wonder of science and technologies
followed by a session of discussions. It involves popular/Inspirational science
lectures on wide range of topics including videos on Nano Science and
Technology and exposure to Nano Science Laboratories. Our team also is
committed to foster an exciting environment for conversation and learning
from all walks of life. As a part of this program, a series of 80 lectures being
organized, honouring the eminent scientist of the nation and chairman of
Board of Governors of INST, Bharat Ratna Prof. C.N.R. Rao, on the occasion of
his 80th birthday. Under guidance of Director, INST, Prof A K Ganguli, our
scientists visited various schools in remote areas across India specially in the
states/UT of Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh where
they delivered lectures to enlighten exciting world of science. The lectures are
delivered in Hindi, English and other regional languages. This outreach
program is becoming a huge success as per inputs received from students,
teachers and others. We've received overwhelming response from students,
teachers and was widely appreciated by local media.
The background of the students varies from a farmer's family to a labourer s
one, but all share a strong interest in topics related to invention, science and
technology. Students are brought together from all parts of the region to
participate in the
programme and
gain valuable
work experience.
Education being a
vast subject
comprises of two
main sections i.e.
literacy followed
by an overview of
school and higher
education among
students and the
second one is technical education i.e. awareness and knowledge of simple
aspects of life, generating natural phenomena and science application for
benefit to human kind (e.g. in agriculture, energy generation, medicine,
transport etc.)
In the near future, INST is planning to organize student-tours to its facilities to
show them equipments such as electron microscopes, elemental analysers,
water analysers, biosensors and other sophisticated equipments. Programme
activities will focus on making connections between technology and the real
world by introducing consumer goods and medicine produced with
technologies (including nanotechnology) in clothing, cosmetics, sensors,
biochips, smart windows etc.
INST outreach programme uses the power of education to impart essential life
skills among children and youth from remote areas. Also it is committed to foster
an exciting environment for conversation and learning for the students. We
encourage students to motivate themselves for learning, knowledge and
science by showcasing the life of achievers both in India and abroad in different
disciplines of Education, science and community welfare.
