We will focus specifically on the Read Across America outreach event that is sponsored yearly by the Fayette County Education Association. This event will serve as a model for planning your own community outreach. Kandie McDaniel - “The Impact of Outreach” Villianization of our profession is at its pinnacle, public opinion of education and educators is not what it once was. The best way to combat this is to be proactive, find ways for your local association to reach out into the community and for the community to become involved in your classroom. With an emphasis on the public work of rhetoric, our discussion will explore the application of rhetorical skills in public service, civic participation, and community engagement. Lakilia Bedeau -“Understanding Diversity & Community Partnerships” This workshop will explore the dimensions of diversity, reflect how diversity affects students, etc. and show how a group affiliation affects self-perception and perception of others.
