Convenience Providers
Did you know?...
Considerations for cross border
In Australia:
o 60% of shoppers have cultural issues
receiving personal deliveries at work
o Inconvenient locations of Delivery Depots
o Postal service only offers one delivery
attempt
o Post Office opening hours are often
inconvenient and have long queues
Did you know?...
Considerations for cross border
In Russia:
o Delivery drivers in Moscow average 35
deliveries per day due to the terrible traffic
congestion.
o Moscow has 3 times fewer roads than it should
have according to urban standards and people
have to violate parking rules as there are no
parking spaces
o PUDO locations offer retailers cost savings
Did you know?...
Considerations for cross border
In Sweden:
o Service Point delivery (to PUDO) is more
popular than home delivery.
o Consumers do not want parcels delivered to
their home, when they are out at work.
o Swedish consumers to pick up from Service
Point – which is a network of store and Post
Office locations

sushi deliveries!

Considerations for cross border
Solutions for international PUDO expansion
1
Integrate each PUDO partner directly at checkout
o
Negotiating contracts with each individual PUDO partner in each
destination
o
Multiple integrations with many points of IT failure
o
Managing many carrier partners by geography
o
Potentially costly if volumes are initially low
o
Time consuming from IT/ project management perspective
o
Presentation could be inconsistent at checkout – different branding/
services by carrier
o
Possible requirement to manage linehaul to destination
o
Multi way sort requirements for the DC
o
Need a solution to manage duty payment/ ID etc

2
Divert the parcel in flight to the PUDO solution
Whilst this solution is appealing to Retailers – as there is ‘no IT work’
this option comes with many issues:
o
Possible fraud implications of diverting a parcel in transit
o
Cannot pass the cost saving on to the customer for the cheaper
delivery service
o
Delays to SLA, if parcel needs re-labelling
o
No visibility for the Retailer of PUDO location selected

Use an Carrier Aggregator or Technology consolidation
3
solution to offer PUDO at checkout
Considerations to check when assessing PUDO solutions:
o
Check how much work needs to be done – every time a country is
added?
o
Does the solution offer world-wide PUDO or only Europe
o
Is linehaul / customs clearance factored into the solution
o
Is duty payment/ ID included in the solution?
o
Does the solution require multiple carrier negotiations directly with
the PUDO provider?
o
Does the Aggregator offer multiple competing carrier networks or
only access to a single network?
o
Are the costs competitive?
