Citizen Appointment
Cultural Action Committee
The City of Greater Sudbury recognizes the value that culture contributes to the community and
has recently endorsed the Greater Sudbury Cultural Plan 2015-2020. A Cultural Action Plan was
drafted to accompany the Cultural Plan. It lays out specific actions within four strategic
directions: Creative Identity, Creative People, Creative Places and Creative Economy. It
outlines potential initiatives, partners, available resources and timelines in order to realize the
goals of the plan.
The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) is seeking 12 citizens for appointment
to a Cultural Action Committee to continue momentum and build community engagement
during the implementation phase.
Committee Objectives
Working with the Business Development Officer for Arts & Culture, the Committee will have the
role of providing a credible, expert resource for the implementation of the plan, and
representing a broad-based community profile, reflecting the diversity among the city’s
residents and its art and cultural communities. It shall serve as a forum for soliciting the
opinions of the larger community on issues related to the actions identified in the Cultural
Action Plan.
Committee Composition
Committee members will be selected with consideration to fair representation of
cultural/artistic disciplines, gender, generations, and cultural diversity. Nominees must be
residents of the City of Greater Sudbury and at least 18 years old. Appointments to the
Committee are unpaid volunteer positions.
Nomination Process
Written or e-mail letters and résumés may be addressed to Emily Trottier, Business
Development Officer. All letters should clearly indicate your reasons for wishing to serve on the
Committee, and a list any direct affiliations with local arts and culture initiatives. The GSDC
Board will review and determine Committee members.
Time Commitment
The Cultural Action Committee will meet on a quarterly basis at Tom Davies Square. Committee
members have the option of either two or three-year terms (July 2015 – July 2017 or July 2015 –
July 2018).
