IPIFF is the ‘International Platform of Insects Our Members for Food and Feed’ In 2013, the leading insects producing companies engaged in a dialogue on the state of affairs of the insect market. In 2015, this resulted in the official establishment of IPIFF as non-profit association at EU level. IPIFF represents the interests of the technologically most advanced players in the insect industry. The goals of IPIFF are to help the insect industry prosper in Europe: by promoting insects as top-tier source of animal proteins for both human consumption & animal feed, based on their excellent sustainable and nutritional proprieties; by encouraging understanding & collaboration amongst members and to disseminate knowledge and information to stakeholders; by developing & promoting shared standards/best practices; by supporting high-level and collaborative R&D. Our working plan: Feed: IPIFF is asking for the revision of several pieces of the ‘EU feed legislation’ in order to allow insect products to be used as source of proteins for animal feed. Today: insect proteins are mainly allowed for use in pet food. These are also authorized for the feeding to farm animals under more restrictive conditions. Short term objective: open the aquaculture, poultry & swine markets to proteins from insects fed with 100% vegetables; Long term objective: start the discussions on opening markets to proteins from insects fed with former foodstuffs. Netherlands France Germany South Africa Netherlands Netherlands Food: IPIFF is looking into the possibilities under the existing & future EU rules on Novel Foods to allow the use of insects & insect derived products for food consumption. Brazil The IPIFF members comply with stringent risk management procedures to ensure full compliance with EU food & feed safety standards.
