Innovators for Peace (I4P) Scholarships
Are you a social entrepreneur? Are you passionate about building innovative approaches to society’s
most intractable issues? We are seeking exceptional individuals to apply for IPSI’s Innovators for Peace
(I4P) Scholarship to attend the 2015 Bologna Symposium on Conflict Prevention, Resolution, &
Reconciliation. Through generous contributions from our distinguished alumni currently building peace
and security globally, IPSI is honored to offer for the first time two Innovators for Peace Scholarships
worth $2,500 each (our largest scholarships available for 2015).
Why you should apply:
Bologna, Italy Symposium on Conflict Prevention, Resolution, &
Reconciliation
When: June 27 – July 25, 2015 (4 weeks)
Why: Today’s conflicts are incredibly complex. As an effective peace
leader, you will need a core toolkit of essential practical skills and a
diverse global professional network. In Bologna, you will go through an
intensive training process with the world’s top practitioners/academics
in those core skills and join the ever-expanding IPSI family of over 500
alumni.
What: Direct training by world leaders in social entrepreneurship, project planning and design,
international negotiation, mediation, facilitation, strategic nonviolent action, trauma healing, economics
of peace, and more. Optional M.A. credits offered from Johns Hopkins SAIS

2015 Bologna Keynote Speaker: Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire
Roméo Dallaire is a retired lieutenant-general, Senator, and celebrated
humanitarian. In 1993, LGen Dallaire was appointed Force Commander
for the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR), where
he witnessed the country descend into chaos and genocide, leading to
the deaths of more than 800,000 Rwandans. He is President of the
Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire Foundation; founder of The Roméo
Dallaire Child Soldiers Initiative, an organization aimed at eradicating the
use of child soldiers; an outspoken advocate for human rights, particularly war-affected children, and
women; a respected champion of genocide prevention initiatives, the Responsibility to Protect doctrine,
and nuclear non-proliferation, as well as a best-selling author. At the Bologna Symposium, he will
candidly discuss his point of view on these pressing global issues.

Featured I4P Faculty: John Marks and Susan Collin-Marks
John Marks founded Search for Common Ground (SFCG) at the height of
the Cold War to build bridges between East and West. SFCG is the largest
nonprofit organization in the world working to defuse, prevent and
transform conflict. Susan Collin Marks served as a peacemaker during
South Africa’s transition from apartheid to democracy, mediating bloody
clashes, and helping formulate national policy. She later joined SFCG as
Senior Vice-President. John and Susan Collin Marks received the Skoll
award for social entrepreneurship in 2006, among many others. They
also serve on IPSI’s Board of Advisors.
The I4P Scholarship is EXTREMELY competitive.
 Scholarships are merit based
 Each IPSI Alumni Scholarship covers $2,500 (a 55% savings!) of the total tuition. Scholarship
recipients are responsible for covering the remaining $2050 of the tuition, as well as travel and
accommodation costs.
 Scholarships are for tuition costs only and cannot be used in conjunction with any other
reduction in fees offered by IPSI. Under no circumstances does IPSI provide scholarships for
travel, visa costs, accommodations in Bologna, or food costs.
Criteria:




Be between the ages of 22-35;
Demonstrate interest in social entrepreneurship;
Be committed to a career in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and/or social entrepreneurship;
Demonstrate why you are uniquely suited to utilize IPSI’s trainings to foster peace and security.
