TECHNICAL BULLETIN - FOR PRODUC TION OF TREE, VINE, FIELD AND BERRY CROPS ® TAMARACK® Plant Nutrient Introduction TAMARACK is a specialty plant nutrient based on amino acids and peptide chains from hydrolyzed proteins. TAMARACK may be applied as a foliar spray or soil applied via fertigation, drip, or drench. TAMARACK was commercialized in the 1970s and is sold in various countries around the world. TAMARACK® Fast Facts Benefits • Enhances yield quality and quantity • Increases retention of fruiting forms • Improves flower set • Mitigates yield loss under crop stress conditions Key Modes of Action • Activates stress handling genes • Improves nitrogen efficiency through enzyme activation Application Method Foliar spray or soil applied via fertigation, drip or drench. Compatibility Compatible with most commonly used fertilizers and pesticides. Use Rates 1 to 8 pts/acre* Application Number 2 to 3* Benefits of TAMARACK •Enhances yield (quantity and quality) under normal and stressed growing conditions by increasing development and retention of fruit and flower set via enhancement of pollen germination. •Mitigates yield losses under stress conditions (salinity, extreme temperatures, drought, etc.) especially in conjunction with critical plant developmental stages (i.e. during rapid growth, flowering and/or fruit set). Mechanisms of Action •Gene activation - stimulates plant gene response to stress conditions is boosted by Tamarack for quicker recovery from stress. •Improves nitrogen use efficiency – activates key plant enzymes involved in nitrogen metabolism for improved growth and yield. Use Recommendations TAMARACK applications may begin as early as the vegetative growth stages but most importantly should occur during the critical reproductive phases from flowering to fruit set and during fruit sizing periods. Rate: 1 to 8 pts/acre* Application Number: 2 to 3* Application Timing: •Permanent Crops: flower formation, flowering, early fruit set and sizing Compatibility: Tamarack is compatible with most commonly used fertilizers and pesticides. A jar test may be used to quickly confirm compatibility with specific tank mixtures. *Always read and follow the Precautions and Direction for Use as listed on the label. Application Timing Permanent Crops: flower formation, flowering, early fruit set and sizing Almond Bloom Timing Yield 2000 +212 lb/A 1950 lb/A 1900 Alternate rows were sprayed on 2/10/12 (prebloom) and 2/16/12 (postbloom). Using $1.75/lb almond meat, the ROI at this location was $41/acre for every dollar spent. 1850 1800 1750 1700 1650 Standard Grower Practice Tamarack 1.5 qt/A Treatment Grape\USA (2011) 25 15 14.97 13.79 12.52 18.63 17.8 16.53 18.57 17.71 18.49 18.92 18.84 18.73 3.2 3.1 3.05 30-9 12-10 17-10 3.22 3.15 5 22-9 3.27 3.25 brix stable in this phase due to low temperatures and cloudy/rainy weather 10 0 3.3 pH Brix levels 20 21.39 20.65 20.36 3.08 pH 26-10 26-10 KEY Tamarack and potassium acetate application improved leaf blade potassium and brix levels during the period of warm, sunny weather typical of fall. When cooler, wetter weather began, the combination still provided higher brix levels and juice pH versus the untreated control.
