2015 ISEE-AKAMAI MENTOR WORKSHOP May 1 & 2 Waikoloa Marriott Hawaii Island APPLY ONLINE by April 15 This workshop has been developed from Akamai’s experience with 300+ interns over 15 years Fee Waivers and Travel Support: Funding from the Thirty Meter Telescope International Observatory and the National Science Foundation (AST#1347767) enables us to waive the $250 registration fee and provide travel support for many participants (hotel accommodations at the Waikoloa Marriott, some meals, and airfare). Application includes a request for fee waiver and travel support. We anticipate being able to accommodate all applicant requests. Notifications regarding application status will be sent out April 16. All Akamai mentors are invited to participate. Mentors will work with ISEE-Akamai staff and other mentors to plan a productive project for their intern. Mentors may also bring a colleague who is a prospective future Akamai mentor. AT THE WORKSHOP LEARN HOW TO • Design a project for an intern that is productive for you and educational for the intern, through a “project plan” • Foster intern ownership over project and promote self-initiative • Support intern through small day-to-day interactions that add up to create a positive experience • Teach your intern problem solving and communication skills that are valued in the workplace WORKSHOP AGENDA FRIDAY, MAY 1 10:30AM - 8:00PM Includes workshop sessions, time to develop an intern project plan, lunch, and dinner.
