The Vitality Planet Fitness gym benefit offers Vitality members
This benefit allows you1 to use Planet Fitness health clubs at a reduced fee and to earn points for
using the health clubs.
Who may use this benefit?
Members 18 years and older on an active Vitality membership can earn points for each visit to
Planet Fitness. Children under 18 years can use the gym for free (except for Planet Platinum) but
only if the main member or spouse has the Planet Fitness benefit. Dependants under the age of 18
do not earn points.
If you use the Vitality Planet Fitness benefit, you may not join Virgin Active or Run/Walk For Life at
the Vitality rates. Should you join Virgin Actives or Run/Walk For Life as a self-paid member you will
be able to earn fitness points for training at these partners.
Getting started
You must choose a health club and a membership type
You can visit www.planetfitness.co.za or phone the Planet Fitness call centre on 0861 GYM 4 ME
(496 463) to find out about the health clubs. Planet Fitness offers three types of memberships for
you to choose from:
Local membership – you may go to one Planet Fitness health club
National membership – you may go to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa,
except Platinum health clubs
Platinum membership – you may go to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa.
There is also a free service specifically for children called Planet Play. Planet Play is a free facility at
selected Planet Fitness clubs where young members between the ages of 4 and 13 years have
membership to special exercise machines and computers stations with games of a physical nature
(provided the parents attend the gym).
Children between 6 months and 6 years will be cared for in a supervised child care facility,
Planet Kids.
Children between the age of 13 and 18 years, will have free access to the Club (except for
Planet Platinum)

To start using the benefit, you must go to your chosen health club and do all of the following:
Show the consultant your Discovery membership card and identity document.
Fill in the Vitality Planet Fitness application form.

You refers to members 18 years and older
Hand in your signed application form and physical activity readiness questionnaire to a
consultant at your selected Planet Fitness gym.
Pay the card fee to the receptionist at the Planet Fitness facility.
You will be given a receipt and a Planet Fitness membership tag giving you membership
to Planet Fitness for 14 days.
Planet Fitness will contact you to make an appointment with a fitness consultant to help
you get started with your exercise programme.
Within six working days of receiving your membership tag, phone Vitality on
0860 99 88 77.
Have your Discovery membership number, the number on your receipt and banking
details ready.
Pay the activation fee.
Provide all the applicable information and Vitality will activate your membership to
Planet Fitness.
What you pay
Access tag
You must pay a fee for an access tag for each person who will go to the health club. Refer to Planet
Fitness for details of the fee.
Activation fee
You must pay a standard once off activation fee of R745 for each adult 18 years and older who want
to use the Planet Fitness benefit. The fee is the same whether you want a Local, National or
Platinum membership. If you start with a Local membership at one health club, and want to change
to another health club, Planet Fitness may charge you an administration fee.
Dependants under 18 years old can start at the health club for free (except for Planet Platinum) –
but only if the main member or spouse has the Planet Fitness benefit.

If you go to the health club fewer than 36 times in a 12-month period, the monthly gym membership
saving will reduce from up to 80% to 50% off the standard monthly fee. See the next page for details

Guest fees if using a different health club
Anyone who has this benefit but does not have National or Platinum membership, but wants to go to a Planet
Fitness Club that is not their chosen health club, must pay a guest fee.
For upgrades, downgrades or transfers between health clubs
If you want membership to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa, you can upgrade to National or
Platinum membership. Please see above for the monthly fees you must pay.
If you want to upgrade, downgrade or change your chosen health club, you must call Planet Fitness on 0861
GYM 4 ME (496 463). Planet Fitness may charge an administration fee for these changes.
How it works
To keep the full benefit, you must visit a health club regularly
Once you have joined the benefit, you need to make the required number of 36 visits in a rolling 12-month
period. At the end of your first year of using the Planet Fitness benefit, we count your visits to check that you
have been to the health club enough times in that 12-month period. From then on, at the end of every month
we count back 12 months to find out what your total number of health club visits was during that period. It
must always be the required number of visits.
Rules if you started before 1 January 2010
You need to visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period to keep the Planet Fitness benefit.
If you do not make the required number of visits in a rolling 12-months, your gym benefit will end. You can
start it again. You will then have to make 36 visits to the gym in a rolling 12-month period and you will receive
a discount on monthly gym fees – it will no longer be free.
To restart your gym membership, you will have to pay a once-off activation fee of R745 and you will receive a
discount of 80% off the monthly standard gym fees.
Rules if you started after 1 January (2010)
All members who joined Planet Fitness through Vitality after 1 January 2010 will need to have a minimum
number of 36 visits over a rolling 12-month period in order to keep the full gym benefit.
If you do not visit the health club 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, you will still have membership to the
gym but you will only receive 50% off the standard health club fees every month and any DiscoveryCard cashback will be lost. You will pay the increased fee until you have made up the required visits again, then the
discount will go back to 80% and your DiscoveryCard cash-back will be paid again.
You must swipe your membership tag each time you go to the health club to get points
If you have activated this benefit you earn points by swiping the access tag each time you visit the health
club. If the health club cannot swipe your access tag for any reason, you must ask to sign the manual register
or show your identity document at the reception in order to ensure that your points are allocated for that
visit.
You can find out how many points you have
On www.discovery.co.za, go to the Vitality Points Monitor. It will show how many times you have visited the
health club in the previous 12 months, but remember to count back in a rolling 12-month period as the Point
Monitor shows a calendar 12 months. It will also show you how many Vitality points you have earned from
visiting the health club. You can also:
Call Discovery on 0860 998877, follow the instructions by choosing <Vitality> and then <Vitality
Points Monitor>.
SMS ‘Vitality’ to 31347. Standard sms rates apply.
Your Vitality points take approximately one week to show on the Vitality Points Monitor on the website.
It is up to you to check that you have visited a Planet Fitness health club the required number of times in a
rolling 12-month period.
Planet Fitness members who join Vitality
If you are already a Planet Fitness member and then you join Vitality, you must pay the Planet Fitness
standard monthly fees until your contract ends. From then on you can pay the once off standard Vitality
activation fee and pay the lower monthly fees from Vitality.
To start earning Vitality points right away on your existing Planet Fitness membership, give us your identity
number, health club name and contract start date. Once we have entered this information on our system,
you can start earning Vitality points. You can back date points for up to three months.
Points you earn
150 points for each visit
Adults (people 18 years and older) earn 150 points for health club workouts. You get points for only one
workout each day up to a maximum of 15 000 points per year in the fitness category.
Points count towards limit of fitness points
All Vitality points you earn at the health club go towards the fitness point’s category. You can find more
information at www.discovery.co.za under Vitality or in Annexure 1: Summary of Points.
How to cancel your membership
Your Planet Fitness is made up of 2 components. The contract which is held with Planet Fitness, and the
discount which is provided by Discovery. You will need to cancel both of these components separately.
Please follow these steps to cancel your Planet Fitness membership:
Contact Vitality and inform us of your intention to cancel.
You will need to provide one-month’s notice in order to cancel the Discovery Vitality discount on
the contract:

If the cancellation is processed before the 10th of the month, your discount notice
period will run until the end of the current month.
If the cancellation is processed after the 10th of the month, your discount notice period
will run until the end of the following month.
Your discount will then stop at the end of your notice period.
You must then contact Planet Fitness directly to cancel the contract. Please note that if you are
still within your first 12 months then Planet Fitness rules will apply and you will need to pay a
cancellation fee.
During the notice period, you may not start a Planet Fitness or Run/Walk For Life benefit
through Vitality.
These rules must be read in conjunction with your Planet Fitness contract, which you would
have received when you completed the application form.
When this benefit ends
When your account with Vitality is no longer in good standing, i.e. failure to adhere to Vitality
rules.
When the main members start a Vitality Planet Fitness contract, they have a five-day cooling-off
period. During this time, they are allowed to cancel the contract and get a refund for any
amounts they have paid.
