Planet Fitness and Vitality – making your training affordable for you With Discovery Vitality, you can keep fit for less and earn Vitality points! Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or prefer the holistic effect of a yoga class, you’re welcome at all Planet Fitness gyms across the country. Planet Fitness gyms open from early until late so that you can work out when it suits you. What the Vitality Planet Fitness benefit offers Vitality members This benefit allows you to use Planet Fitness health clubs at a reduced fee and to earn Vitality points for using the health clubs. Who may use this benefit Vitality members 16 years and older on an active Vitality membership can earn Vitality points for each visit to Planet Fitness. Children under 18 years can use the gym for free (except for Planet Platinum) but only if the main member or spouse has a Planet Fitness membership. If you use the Vitality Planet Fitness benefit, you cannot join Virgin Active or Run/Walk For Life at the Vitality rates. If you join Virgin Active or Run/Walk For Life as a self-paid member, you can earn fitness points for training at these partners. What you pay Access tag You must pay a fee for an access tag for each person who will go to the health club. Contact Planet Fitness for details of this fee. Activation fee You pay a standard once-off activation fee of R1 030 for each adult 18 years and older who wants to use the Planet Fitness benefit. The fee is the same whether you want a Local, National or Platinum membership. If you start with a Local membership at one health club, and change to another health club, Planet Fitness will charge you an administration fee. Dependants under 18 years can use the health club for free (except for Planet Platinum) – but only if the main member or spouse has the Planet Fitness benefit. Monthly fee paid to the health club If you start the benefit after 1 January 2010: Membership type Savings on the monthly fee Local membership: Main member and spouse 80% off the club rate Local membership: Adult dependants (18 years and older) 50% off the club rate National membership: Main member and spouse 67% off the national retail rate National membership: Adult dependants (18 years and 50% off the national retail rate older) Children under 18 years Free access, but only if the main member or spouse has the Planet Fitness benefit Planet Platinum – main member 50% off the Platinum rate Planet Platinum – spouse 50% off the Platinum rate Planet Platinum – Adult dependants (18 years and older) 50% off the Platinum rate Planet Platinum – children under 18 years No access If you go to the health club fewer than 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, the monthly gym membership saving will reduce from up to 80% to 50% off the standard monthly fee. See the next page for details on how this works. Guest fees if using a different health club Anyone who has this benefit but does not have National or Platinum membership must pay a guest fee when using any other club. For upgrades, downgrades or transfers between health clubs If you want membership to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa, you can upgrade to National or Platinum membership. Please see above for the monthly fees you will pay. If you want to upgrade, downgrade or change your chosen health club, you must call Planet Fitness on 0861 496 463. Planet Fitness may charge an administration fee for these changes. How it works Getting started You must choose a health club and a membership type Visit www.planetfitness.co.za or phone the Planet Fitness call centre on 0861 496 463 to find out about the health clubs. Planet Fitness offers three types of memberships: Local membership – you may go to one Planet Fitness health club. National membership – you may go to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa, except Platinum health clubs. Platinum membership – you may go to all Planet Fitness health clubs in South Africa. Access is free for children (except at Planet Fitness Platinum), but only if the main member or spouse has the Planet Fitness benefit. Children between 6 months and 6 years will be cared for in a supervised child care facility, Planet Kids. Children between the ages of 13 and 18, will have free access to the Club (except for Planet Platinum) Planet Fitness terms and conditions apply (visit www.planetfitness.co.za). You must go to your chosen Planet Fitness health club to sign up To start using the benefit, go to your chosen health club and do all of the following: Show the consultant your Discovery membership card and identity document. Fill in the Vitality Planet Fitness application form. Hand in your signed application form and physical activity readiness questionnaire. Pay the once-off activation and gym tag fees to the receptionist at the Planet Fitness facility. Give Planet Fitness your banking details for the monthly debit order. You will get a receipt and a Planet Fitness membership tag giving you access to Planet Fitness. Planet Fitness will contact you to make an appointment with a fitness consultant to help you get started with your exercise programme. To keep the full benefit, visit a health club regularly Once you have joined, you need to make the required number of 36 visits in a rolling 12-month period. At the end of your first year of using the Planet Fitness benefit, we count your visits to check that you have been to the health club enough times in that 12-month period. From then on, at the end of every month we count back 12 months to find out what your total number of visits was during that period. It must always be the required number of visits. If you do not visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12month period, you will still have access to the gym but your discount will reduce and you will pay the increased fee until you have reached the required 36 visits in a rolling 12-month period again. You must swipe your membership tag each time you go to the health club to get Vitality points You earn Vitality points by swiping the access tag each time you visit the health club. If the health club cannot swipe your access tag for any reason, you must ask to sign the manual register or show your identity document at the reception to ensure that your points are allocated for that visit. You can find out how many Vitality points you have On www.discovery.co.za, go to the Vitality Points Monitor. It will show how many times you have visited the health club in the previous 12 months. Remember to count back in a rolling 12-month period as the Vitality Points Monitor shows a calendar 12 months. It will also show you how many Vitality points you have earned from visiting the health club. You can also: Call 0860 998877 and follow the instructions to get to your Vitality Points Monitor. SMS ‘Vitality’ to 31347. Standard SMS rates apply. Your Vitality points take about one week to show on the Vitality Points Monitor on the website. It is up to you to check that you have visited a Planet Fitness health club the required number of times in a rolling 12-month period. Planet Fitness members who join Vitality If you are already a Planet Fitness member and then join Vitality, you must pay the Planet Fitness standard monthly fee until your contract ends. From then on you can pay the once-off standard Vitality activation fee and pay the lower monthly fees from Vitality. To start earning Vitality points right away on your existing Planet Fitness membership, give us your identity number, health club name and contract start date. When we have this information, you can start earning Vitality points. We can backdate points for up to three months. Vitality points you earn 150 Vitality points for each visit Adults (18 years and older) earn 150 Vitality points for workouts. You get Vitality points for one workout each day up to a maximum of 15 000 points a year in the fitness category. All dependents between 16 and up to 18 years old earn 150 Vitality points a day for a workout (maximum one workout a day), up to a maximum of 10 000 Vitality points. Vitality points count towards limit of fitness points All Vitality points you earn at the health club go towards the fitness points category. You can find more information on www.discovery.co.za. Points will only be awarded for one fitness activity a day. If you complete two fitness activities in one day, then the higher points between the two will be awarded. How to cancel your membership Follow these steps to cancel your Planet Fitness membership: Contact Planet Fitness to inform them of your intention to cancel. You will need to provide a month’s notice to cancel the Discovery Vitality discount on the contract: Your discount will stop at the end of your notice period. If you are still within your first 12 months then Planet Fitness rules will apply and you may need to pay a cancellation fee. During the notice period, you may not start a Virgin Active or Run/Walk For Life benefit through Vitality. These rules apply with the rules of your Planet Fitness contract, which you would have received when you completed the application form. When this benefit ends When your Vitality membership ends. When the main member starts a Vitality Planet Fitness contract, there is a five-day coolingoff period. During this time, you can cancel the contract and get a refund for any amounts you have paid.
