A Center for Entrepreneurship Training and Development in Asia The UP Institute for Small-Scale Industries is a training, research and development institution assisting and promoting the development of small enterprises in the Philippines. The greater part of training resources has been placed on the development of potential and existing entrepreneurs, managers, supervisors, trainers, extension officers, consultants, and other catalysts who will be able to hasten the development process. Pushing beyond national boundaries, the UPISSI has offered its expertise and facilities to other countries similarly engaged in increasing their small enterprise base. Thus, it has emerged as a center for “entrepreneurship training and development” in the region. The UP-ISSI links with private and public institutions here and abroad for two reasons: to draw support for its activities and to share its experiences and knowledge in small enterprise development programs. Prominent among its linkages is the Small Enterprises Research and Development Foundation (SERDEF). While the thrust of the Managers’ Course is to orient and upgrade knowledge and skills in marketing, financial, human resource and operations management, the Advanced Managers’ Course anchors on such competencies and further expands them with a greater emphasis on critical areas of management like leadership, innovation, technology, environment, people management, strategic management, risk management and customer relations management. The Advanced Managers’ Course innovatively veers away from merely equipping the participants with knowledge and best practices. The Advanced Managers’ Course runs for just ten (10) weeks but the execution strategies expected of the participants will surely be tracked for a period of one year. The Advanced Managers’ Course ultimate goal is to make participants indubitably know and inevitably show what they know. The Advanced Managers’ Course therefore not only equips but also challenges today’s leaders and managers hungry for learning and ready for changes. True to its name, the Advanced Managers’ Course is not merely a series of innovative learning but also a pioneering avenue where the manager or leader advances and creates progresses not just personally but also institutionally.
