1 ) System Features
The heat alert system monitors temperature to determine if the K9 is in danger of
overheating.
Alarm Output: The primary alarm output can be connected to an alarm device
such as a strobe or siren. It could also be used to trigger relays in order to roll
down windows. When an alert is triggered, this output will become active. The
type of active signal can be configured through the menu to fit the application. See
3) System Menu on page 5 for details.
Alert Delay: The alert delay postpones the arming of the alert function after
system start-up or an alert reset. The duration of the delay is adjustable in the
setup menu. See 3) System Menu on page 5 for details.
Aux Input: The system is equipped with an auxiliary input. An Aux Input Alert is
triggered when this input is activated. See 5.6) Input/Output Specifications on
page 8 for details.
Aux Power: The auxiliary power output is a switched power output that supplies
power to a peripheral device or relay as long as the system is turned on. See 5.6)
Input/Output Specifications on page 8 for details.
Fan Control: The optional fan is controlled both manually and automatically. The
manual fan control is through the right button, but when an alert is triggered, the
system will automatically turn the fan on. See 5.6) Input/Output Specifications on
page 8 for details.
Temp Sensors: The system can utilizes zero to eighteen temperature sensors.
Once any one of the sensors is at or over the Alert Temp set in the menu, an alert
is triggered.
Voltage Monitor: The voltage that is fed to the system is monitored for low
voltage conditions. If the voltage drops below a specific level, a Power Alert will be
triggered. The voltage must stay below the threshold level for 10 seconds to
trigger an alert. This is to minimize false alarms if there are short dips in the power
due to an intermittent current draw by other equipment. See 5.6) Input/Output
Specifications on page 8 for details.

2.2 ) Temperature Sensors
The temperature sensor assemblies used with this system are designed to be
hooked together end to end (daisy-chained). The sensor chip itself is a digital
device which is accessed individually using a unique digital address hardcoded into each chip.

2.2.1 ) Replacing a Temperature Sensor
If a sensor needs to be replaced, physically replace the damaged or
malfunctioning sensor. Then run the “Configure Sensors” routine and
press the “Search” button. After returning to the main screen, the new
sensor should be working and should be in the same location as the old
one. See 5.8.2) Sensor Configuration on page 10 for more information
on configuring the temperature sensors.

3 ) System Menu
Access the system setup menu by pressing the center button.
To change a setting or enter a sub-menu, select the desired line item with the left
and right buttons and then press the center button. The left and right buttons can
then be used to change the setting value. Once the setting has been set to the
desired value, pressing the center button will apply the setting change and return to
the previous setup menu.

Alert Delay: Sets the initial delay after system start-up or
alert reset before heat alert system is armed.
Alert Temp: Sets the temperature that any temperature
sensor must reach to trigger a heat alert.

Output Mode: Sets the type of alarm output when an
alert is triggered (either a single pulse, continuous pulsing
until the alert is reset, or a continuous active output until
the alert is reset).
Output Time: If 'mode' is set to a single pulse, this sets
the duration of the pulse. If set to continuous pulsing, this
sets the duration of each pulse (and duration of each break
between pulses) or half the period. If 'mode' is set to
continuous output, this setting has no effect.

4 ) Product Care and Service
Your system has been designed to give years of trouble free use. Great effort was
given to the selection of the highest quality components and fixtures. Following are
tips and suggestions that will help keep your system fully functional.
The display can be cleaned with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive
cleansers as they can damage the LCD panel and the housing.

5 ) Installation
5.1 ) Read This First!
Installation of this system should be carried out by qualified persons. It is
recommended that the installer(s) have updated wiring diagrams and
schematics of the specific vehicle in which the system will be installed or have
access to wiring information through a local dealership or other source.
If an existing heat alert system is being replaced, remove all previous wiring
before beginning installation. This system requires that wiring connections be
made as described in this manual - do not connect this to any other system’s
pre-existing wires.
Any deviation from these instructions that causes damage to any part of the
system will void the warranty.
5.2 ) Before installation
1. Confirm all parts and components are included and accounted for by
doing a complete inventory of the kit contents.
2. Read this manual to familiarize yourself with the system’s unique
requirements for installation.
3. Observe all safety practices. It is the installer’s responsibility to
determine, implement, and observe those safety practices.
Please note:
This system is designed to be directly hard-wired to the vehicle’s 12 volt
supply and therefore should not be connected to any device intended to
detect vehicle battery drain. Doing so may “power down” this product and/or
render it ineffective for its intended use.
Do not load the main power supply fuse until all connections have been
completed and verified as being correct.
We recommend that you meet with the intended user to discuss preferences
and installation requirements specific to the system’s application and user
comfort.

5.4 ) Placement of the F4 Module
Before starting your installation, consider the most appropriate placement of
the system. It must be well protected from moisture and dust.
Mounting Location Examples:
1. Center console
2. Face of the dash
3. Front panel of the kennel
4. Trunk of the vehicle
5. Trailer cabinet
These are just some examples. Keep in mind that the unit must be
accessible to turn on and off, reset alerts, and check the status.
Note: Take care to route all wires away from excessive heat sources and
points of possible abrasion.

5.8 ) Temperature Sensor Installation
5.8.1 ) Sensor Placement
The kit includes temperature sensors which are specifically designed to work
with this system. Each sensor assembly has 15 feet of cable. See 2.2)
Temperature Sensors on page 4 for more details about the sensor assemblies.
Care should be taken before deciding where their final mounting point should
be. Hook and loop fasteners (Velcro®) are provided to secure the sensors.
Consider:
• No sensor should be mounted in a position that is subject to direct
sunlight nor in close proximity to air conditioning vents or the roof of the
vehicle -- Doing so will give incorrect readings of the “true” temperature
inside the vehicle.
• Be certain the K9 cannot get to the sensors. They are not chew proof.
Do not close up access to the temperature sensor connections until after the
system is fully configured.
5.8.2 ) Sensor Configuration
Given the way these temperature sensors are designed, the sensor chips are
electrically indistinguishable to the main controller. The controller distinguishes
between them by a digital address that is unique to each chip. As such, there
is a process of configuration in order to indicate to the system which sensor is
sensor “1”, sensor “2”, etc.
If a specific ordering of the sensors is not required, all the sensors can be
connected and the “Configure Sensors” routine run. The order of the sensors
will be the sequential order of their unique addresses. The same set of
sensors will always be ordered the same way so the sensors can now be
physically placed logically based on the order given.
When it is desirable for the sensors to have a specific order, follow these steps:
1. Connect the first sensor.
2. Press the “Search” button in the “Configure Sensors” routine.
3. Connect the next sensor to the end of the last one connected.
4. Press “Search” again.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the sensors are connected.
Each time the “Search” button is pressed, the “Sensors Found” number
will increase by one indicating that the last sensor added was found
and configured. The sensors will be displayed in the order that they
were connected.

5.9 ) MD10 F Ray Allen Fan Connection (Optional)
The Ray Allen MD10 F Fan is designed to bolt directly to either side of the
front panel on the Ray Allen Cruise Eze™. Hardware for this installation is
included with the Fan. When attaching the Fan to the front panel of your
Cruise Eze™, it is suggested to insert the bolts and washers from inside of
the cage and place the nut on the Fan side as having the nut on the inside of
the cage may injure the dog.
Also included is the wiring to connect directly to the F4 system. To complete
this connection, attach the fan output wire from the F4 wire harness to the
blue wire on the fan (butt-splices are included for this connection). Connect
the black wire from the fan to a chassis ground. This fan is designed to blow
into the Cruise Eze™ unit. If for some reason it is desired for the fan to blow
in the opposite direction, simply reverse these wire connections.
5.10 ) Completing the Installation
Verify the following before proceeding:
• All connections are securely attached to the system module.
• The power switch is in the “off” (right) position.
• All wire splices and butt connectors are secure and that there is no
chance of a short circuit.
Once all of the above is completed, load the main system power fuse into the
inline blade fuse holder.
Power up the system by flipping the power switch to the “on” (left) position.

5.11 ) Testing the HEAT ALERT™ System
Referring to 3) System Menu on page 5 as needed, set the following settings:
ALERT DELAY : 1 M
ALERT TEMP : 70°
TEMP UNITS : °F
Set the ALARM OUTPUT options as appropriate for the device(s) wired to the
output.
If not already, wait for the System Status to read “ARMED” meaning that the
ALERT DELAY has expired.
If necessary, use the vehicle heater to warm the interior to trigger a heat alert.
As soon as any one sensor reads at or above the ALERT TEMP, the system
will enter into an alert mode.
Heat Alert Sequence:
1. The system status will read “TMP ALERT”.
2. The cooling fan (if installed) will turn on.
3. Any device wired into the alarm output will activate.
The HEAT ALERT™ can be cleared by pressing the RESET button. The fan
will continue to run but the heat alert will delay re-arming for one (1) minute
(the amount of time set as the ALERT DELAY).
Note: When this test is completed successfully, we suggest that you reset
the ALERT TEMP to 85.
5.12 ) Confirming Normal Operation
Once the system is fully tested and operational, verify the following:

6 ) Warranty
Two Year Warranty
Ray Allen Manufacturing, LLC guarantees the purchaser that this F Series System
will perform without defect in materials and workmanship for a period of two years
from date of purchase. Ray Allen Mfg. will replace or repair defective materials at
its discretion.
Exclusions to this warranty include, but are not limited to, acts of God or nature,
vehicle accidents, product misuse or alteration (without the explicit direction of Ray
Allen) or improper installation. Warranty does not include cost of removal,
installation, labor, or any other cost incurred by purchaser.
Ray Allen
Manufacturing, LLC assumes no responsibility or liability for installation, use or
misuse of the F Series System.
This warranty is valid for the original installation of this unit and is voided if the F
Series System is removed from the originally installed vehicle and installed into
another vehicle.
Warranty service requests are to be reported by phone to Ray Allen at (800) 4440404 or sent in writing via e-mail to [email protected]. Requests require the
serial # of the System and original sales order number to be processed.
