6th Annual Dowtown Holiday Stroll
December 7 & 8, 2013
The Holiday Stroll weekend will kick off with the annual SANTA SIGHINGS 5 K FUN RUN, on
Saturday, December 7th – beginning at 11:00 am. Streets will re-open by 12 noon.
THE “Official” Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at Custom House Square by antique fire truck on
Saturday at 1:00 -then Santa will “stroll” with his admirers to MARE Studios, 27 Center Street,
where he will greet his young admirers and pose for free, souvenir photos until 4 pm.
Saturday, at 4:30 - Santa and Mrs. Claus will join the NB High and All-City Middle School Marching
Bands and Color Guard for a parade up William Street to the Library for the City’s official Tree
Lighting Ceremony with Mayor Jon Mitchell, Elected Officials, and Miss New Bedford Jillian Zucco.
NEW – Enjoy a Holiday sing-a-long featuring students from UMD Chorus following
the tree lighting.
Cookies and hot chocolate will be available.

The University Art Gallery - 715 Purchase St. The Harpoon Project. This installation designed specifically for New
Bedford by European artist, Ilona Németh, is a community effort, celebrating the City’s rich whaling history by creating
a walkway among more than a thousand handmade clay harpoons laid out on the surface of the gallery floor. The piece
was inspired by the toggle harpoon, a technological refinement important in the rise of New Bedford’s whaling industry,
invented in 1848 by African American abolitionist and local blacksmith, Lewis Temple.
