How to access Medicare rebates for the Introduction to Mindfulness course Medicare currently offers eligible individuals a rebate for 6 -10 group ‘Psychological Therapy’ sessions (IN ADDITION to the 6-10 individual sessions) with a Medicare registered Psychologist. To be eligible for the rebate, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral letter from your Doctor or Psychiatrist. NOTE - If you do not wish to claim the Medicare rebate a referral and Health Care Plan are NOT required. If you already have a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral for individual counselling (with Emma or a different Psychologist), please talk to your referring Doctor about adding Group Therapy to your care plan. You will also need another referral letter specifically for Group Therapy (details below). To receive Medicare rebates for this course you will need to: 1. Book a long appointment with your Doctor (or Psychiatrist) and ask for the following: • A Mental Health Treatment Plan that includes GROUP psychological therapy under the Medicare ‘Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative’ (if you already have a Treatment Plan, Group Therapy will need to be added). • A written referral to Dr Emma Spiel, Clinical Psychologist - specifying the referral is for 6 sessions of GROUP Psychological Therapy. The referral must be dated before the beginning of the course (if it’s dated after the course begins, you will only be able to claim for the classes occurring after the referral date). 2. Complete the course Registration Form and pay the full course fee. You can register before or after you visit your Doctor. 3. Bring the referral letter and Mental Health Treatment Plan to the first session (alternatively your Doctor can send this to us). 4. Attend all the sessions to receive the full rebate (Medicare only provides a rebate for classes you actually attend – the current rebate is $31.65 per class, so if you attend all classes your rebate will be $158.25). 5. At the end of course, complete the feedback form (you'll receive this from us). 6. You will then receive a receipt that you can send or take to Medicare to claim your rebates.
