Taking Tea in Jersey
A Genuine Jersey cream tea can be given
a particular regional twist by replacing the
traditional jam with lé nièr beurre – Jersey
Black Butter. This is a unique, ages-old Island
speciality made from apples, cider, liquorice
and spices to create a dark, rich, apple fruit
butter. Combined with a generous spoonful
of luxurious Jersey cream atop a warm fresh
scone, spread with the Island’s famous butter,
it makes a real treat – more suited to an adult
palette.
Whatever preserve provides the finishing
touch, no cream tea is complete without butter
and cream. As home to the most famous
breed of cow in the world, Jersey takes some
beating in the cream league. Genuine Jersey
members the Jersey Dairy and the Classic
Herd in St Peter, produce golden butter and
rich, luxurious creams, as well as milk for the
perfect cup of tea. For an extra thick cream,
try the Classic Herd’s clotted variety – it
is what the end of a nose was meant to be
dipped in to.
Products and produce carrying this distinctive
Genuine Jersey mark have been reared,
grown and caught in Jersey and/or created by
accredited Islanders and local businesses who
qualify to be members of the Genuine Jersey
Products Association. Find out more, visit
