JIBS Alumni Association Annual Report 2014-01-01 – 2014-12-31 Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 Introduction During the year of 2014 the JIBS Alumni Association (JAA) became independent from Jönköping international Business School (JIBS). Mainly in terms of not receiving financial support from JIBS but also as the role of the Alumni Relations Officer (ARO) changed. Due to this the focus has primarily been on the core organisation and what should be done internally. The strategic work put down during the spring led to the formalisation of a mission, a vision and guiding principles to be used as a guiding map when reviewing the organisation further. Other key areas have been the introduction of a membership fee and then the process of implementing it as the Annual General Meeting on May 23rd decided to accept the proposition. The relationship with JIBS is good and fruitful, which is important to the JAA. Several meetings have been held during the year between JAA, the ARO and JIBS, to discuss the format of the cooperation. There is a positive outlook for the future where the support from JIBS is strong. As JIBS celebrated its 20th Anniversary in May, alumni from all over the world were invited to participate in a large Homecoming Day. Many attended both the day and evening activities making it a great celebration of our school. The JAA board expanded during 2014 as one member left the board and three new were voted in. The main reason to increase the number of board members was to get more human resources and special competences into the board, focusing on external relations and communication. These two areas are deemed highly important due to the Associations´ current situation. The JAA would not be anything without its members and we are grateful for all the commitment members are supporting the Association and are willing to put down their energy in creating an inspiring network. This Annual Report serves as a summary of the most important accomplishments and key areas of JAA during 2014. The board of JIBS Alumni Association 1(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 Focus areas The focus of 2014 has been on reviewing JIBS Alumni Association (JAA) and establishing what position and role the association should have. Summing up some of the focus areas of 2014, we should mention: A strategic focus was taken early in the year as the board decided on a mission, vision and guiding principles for the association. One of the purposes was to create a guiding map for board in terms of how the organisation should be viewed and led. A lot of work has been put down in the process of implementing the membership fee that was decided upon during the Annual General Meeting in May. Along with the introduction the focus of the board became on looking over the organisation of JAA as a whole. The idea for a Project Committee was created and work in terms of how to implement such a committee was further discussed. The board expanded as two additional positions where added, going from seven to nine members. This due to the need of getting more resources to the board in form of competences within external relations and communication. The work with a strategy on external funding was on-going along with a new communication plan. One step made was to further develop the website in order to reach a wider range of stakeholders. As JIBS celebrated 20 years a large homecoming Day was organized where many alumni travelled back to Jönköping to attend the festivities. First there was a mingle at JIBS, a presentations by Emanuel Raptis, President and Chairman of JAA and a shorter lecture by Johan Roos, Dean and Managing Director JIBS. Afterward the Annual General Meeting was held off campus while the preparation for the evening activities was made. The day ended with a celebration party at campus. 2(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 The Network By the end of year 2014, the network had a total of 4657 members, which is an increase of 625 members since end of 2013. Along with the decision from JIBS to focus on one graduation per year, during the end of spring semester, more students have been able to attend the diploma ceremony. By the Annual General Meeting in May 2014, the JIBS Alumni Association Membership fee was introduced, first time JAA decides to implement a voluntarily membership fee for its members. The membership fee is an essential source of income, since the cut offs from JIBS have had a major impact on the JAA organization. Having a membership fee as a base source of revenue streams will guarantee JAA to be an active organization in the long run. The strategy is to have differentiated sources of income and the work for securing long term financial stability is ongoing. As the Annual General Meeting decides the membership fee for each consecutive year, a consistent and long-term understanding of the importance of having a membership fee is very much needed. Financial result 2014 The financial result of 2014 ended in a loss of -8.743 SEK (-679 SEK). Total revenue for the year amounted in 5.200 SEK. Costs sums up to – 13.943 SEK (-4.097 SEK). Costs during 2014 were allocated to operational costs including travel expenses, insurance, bank charges and IT-administration. Costs were also allocated to membership events, explained in the activities section. Operational costs are costs that are necessary for the board to do their work, and for JIBS Alumni Association to exist as a professional and active organization. By increasing the number of members paying the membership fee and expanding to other revenue streams, it is an immediate goal to allocate the majority of current finances for membership activities. There was no cost compensation given by JIBS during 2014. JIBS Alumni Association has a close and meaningful relation with the administration of JIBS and collaborated activities between JAA and JIBS are always ongoing, so are the possibilities of JIBS partnering in JAA events. Income generating activities, such as event fees, sponsorship programs and donations are to be further developed and executed during 2015. Income statement, balance sheet, notes and key ratios will follow below. 5(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 6(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 7(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 8(6) Annual Report 2014 JIBS Alumni Association Jönköping May 29, 2015 Approval of the Annual Report: The board of JIBS Alumni Association 2014 _______________ Xenia Johansson President __________________ Mikael Klaar Vice President ___________________ Jaroslav Veresjtjaka Vice President _______________ Henrik Johnson Treasury __________________ Bengt B Hansson Board member ___________________ Andreas Runnberg Board member _______________ Federico Rodriguez Board member __________________ Justin Johnson Board member ___________________ Irsa Amerian Board member Contact: Questions regarding the Annual Report 2014 are directed to: Xenia Johansson Chairman & President Email: [email protected] Mobile: +46 76 650 44 78 9(6)
