Johns Island Presbyterian Church has registered a team to
participate in the Charleston Walk for Water on March
21, 2015. Our team will be raising funds for Water
Missions International by asking friends & family to
sponsor us as we walk. These funds will be used to
provide clean water and health and sanitation education
to people all over the world. Please join our team and
help bring hope to those affected by the global water
epidemic. Visit our team page at www.watermission.org/

Walkers".
Contact Manly Eubank or Beth Dolby for more
information. We can't wait to see how God is going to
work this year through Water Sunday. Tens of thousands
of lives were impacted in 2014 by churches partnering
with Water Missions International through Water Sunday
as well as regular giving to provide safe, living water to
people around the world.

SESSION NEWS
The Session met Monday, February 9, 2015 in the
conference room of the Johns Island Presbyterian Church
office at 6:30 P.M. Below are the highlights of the
meeting:
Brunch will be served between services on Easter
Sunday.
The “living flower" cross will be placed in front of the
Sanctuary for Easter Sunday. Everyone is encouraged to
bring flowers to add to the cross.
The meeting was called to order by the Moderator,
Reverend Deane Kemper, at 6:30 P.M.; a quorum was
declared present.
The session approved a recommendation from the
Worship committee to move communion to the second
Sunday of the month in April and May due to the fact that
Easter Sunday is the first Sunday in April and the Kirkin’
is the first Sunday in May.
The meeting was opened with prayer and devotion by
Adam Baslow at 6:30 P.M.
Treasurer Debbie Melson reported that January income
was $108,683.00, most of which was prepaid pledges,
including a portion of the anonymous donation received
in 2014. Expenses for January were $10.6K, resulting in a
net income in January of $76.5K.
$716.31 was raised on “Souper Bowl” Sunday and will
be donated to the Hebron-Zion Emergency Food Pantry.
The Water Missions International “Walk for Water” is
March 21st, and the “JIPC Water Walkers” team is set up
on the WMI website. There will also be information in
the bulletin to encourage everyone to sign up to walk or
make a donation to WMI. The committee is exploring the
idea of offering a tour of the WMI facility
Tom Burke provided an analysis of the stewardship
campaign reporting that there were 176 giving units in
2014 totaling $438,884.00. Actual receipts for 2014 were
$496,605.00.
Approximately 70 people attended the oyster roast
Saturday, February 7th. Manly Eubank, Dave Anderson,
and Benny Slay were thanked for cooking the oysters.
The session approved a recommendation from the M & O
committee to use approximately $200.00 from the Center
of Christian Studies fund to purchase DVD’s from “Great
Courses” for those who would like to learn more about
the different religions in the world.
A new service commitment form was reviewed. The form
will be provided to the congregation in the coming
weeks.
The session approved a request from the M & O
committee to provide $1,000.00 to sponsor the Gullah
Celebration to Fight Hunger. The funds will come from
the M & O budget.
Several people who will be joining the church will meet
with the session on Sunday, March 29th, after which they
will be introduced and recognized at the “5th Sunday
Potluck and New Members Luncheon”.
Richards Roddey will meet with Elders from HebronZion and Bethel Church to discuss organizing a men’s
social group.
Total attendance for January 2015 was 875, compared to
700 last January. This represents a 25% increase over last
year.
The session authorized Richards Roddey to enter into
discussion with Elders from First Scots Presbyterian
Church and First Hilton Head Presbyterian Church to
begin working on an overture to go to the General
Assembly.
The Operations committee is looking into installing solar
lights along the walkways leading to the parking lot to
help illuminate the area at night. The committee is also
getting quotes for power washing and painting the
sanctuary.
Having concluded the business of the meeting, Dave
Anderson closed the meeting with prayer at 7:59 P.M.
Plans for the Easter and Holy Week are complete. The
palm crosses for Palm Sunday will be made on Sunday,
March 22nd, in the Fellowship Hall.

Florist Update
Keepsakes Florist will be our new florist,
replacing Blooming Occasions. Owners
Mike and Karen Spalviero opened their
doors 23 years ago, and worked hard to
establish themselves as a reputable florist who delivers
beautiful flower arrangements. They work with a lot of
churches in the area, and they will be able to deliver to
our church on Saturdays. Visit their web site,
www.keepsakesflorist.net, to view their gorgeous
flowers and order online or call them, 843-766-7807.
They’re located at 2024 Wappoo Drive in Riverland
Terrace.
Youth News
by Lee Ann Sullivan
Please consider becoming a Sunday school
teacher or youth group leader. We are blessed
with lots of new members which include a
number of young couples with young children.
This is SO exciting and vital to the growth of
our church; one might say we are experiencing
“growing pains”! With the “growing pains”
comes the need for new Sunday school teachers
and new folks helping with youth group. We are
adding new youth Sunday school classes very
soon along with at least one new youth group
component. If you are interested in volunteering
or would like to find out more about these
opportunities, please contact Lee Ann Sullivan.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR
CONSIDERATION !!
Charleston Flower Market is another choice for flowers.
They do beautiful work and are also located in the
Riverland Terrace area, in the same shopping center as
The Terrace Theater. Call 796-0015 to place an order.
Their deliveries will be made Fridays between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m.
Those who prefer to pick and arrange the flowers
themselves chose the option of bringing a “personal”
arrangement. Please remember these need to be in the
Sanctuary before 8 a.m. Sunday morning and will be
used for both worship services.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at
the Seafood and Family Fun Night at The
Baslows! Adam and Molly Baslow are
graciously hosting us on March 7th at 5:30 p.m.
for fun family games, fellowship, and a
delicious fresh seafood dinner cooked on site!
The church office needs to be told what should be
printed in the Sunday bulletin. The wording begins with,
“The flowers are placed in the Sanctuary today to the
Glory of God and…” you fill in the rest. Please email
[email protected] or call the church office, 559-9380.
Mark your calendars for Vacation Bible
School 2015, June 15th through 19th. Details
will be announced soon.
If you have any questions, please contact the flower
committee chair, Patty Anderson, by calling or texting a

E Q U A L S FAITH-IN-ACTION
"To My Dear Work Church Family,
Thank you so much for your support during my Mom's illness and funeral. The cards and emails I received were so
beautiful and touching. The support Ruby arranged in my absence was invaluable; special thanks to Ruby and Jan for printing the
bulletin. The situation was stressful enough, traveling back and forth to Baltimore; knowing that everything here at work would be
handled took a huge weight off my mind; I was able to focus and help my older sister with the arrangements. And the flowers from
the church were lovely!! I kept a few and shared them with Mom's best friend, Margaret, who threw open her doors for us.
Mom would have loved the service. Tons of cousins came and told stories of the "Happy Molly Day" celebrations they
would have whenever Mom came to visit. My sister, Joyce, included all of Mom's names in her eulogy: Molly Isabelle Charlotte
Cecil Hawkins. A soloist sang "Amazing Grace", the song that was playing when Mom gave her life to Christ at the age of 10. Her
church rallied around her, too, everything was beautiful and the food was delicious. Mom now rests beside Daddy in the cemetary
of Providence United Methodist Church.
I once asked Mom how many hours she spent on her knees to get me this job; she just laughed! I would have never gotten
through this without you. Thank you so, so much.
Elaine Earl"
