GURU NANAK INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES & RESEARCH
fter approval from Govt of India & DCI, Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences &
Research (GNIDSR) was established in September, 2003, and got affiliated to West
Bengal University of Health Sciences. At the time of opening Prof. (Dr.) R. N Das was
Principal till February, 2004.In mid-October 2003, Prof.(Dr.) T. K. Saha, Ex- principal of
Dr.R. Ahmed Dental College, joined as Director. After superanuations of Prof (Dr.) R.N Das,
Prof (Dr.) T. K Saha took the responsibility of being Principal in addition to duties of
Director.
Various faculties from Govt. Dental and Medical colleges joined to enrich this institution;
they are Prof.(Dr.) T. K Pal, Prof.(Dr.)Saibal Sen, Prof.(Dr.)R.R. Paul, Prof.(Dr.)Subrata
Sarkar, Prof.(Dr.)Utpal Das. All of them are nationally known for their knowledge and
experience and quality. Thereafter Prof (Dr.) Jyotsna Sannyal, Prof (Dr.) Mousumi Pal, Prof
(Dr.) Amit Ray, Prof(Dr.) Gautam Kundu took the charge of the respective disciplines and
glorified this institution. Subsequently Prof (Dr.) A. Surana, Prof (Dr.) Jayanta
Bhattacharyya, Prof (Dr.)Abhijit Chakraborty, Prof(Dr.) Shabnam Zahir also joined this
institution along with other junior faculties.

their speciality highly beneficial to our students.
The institution was recognized by DCI and Govt of India in
2008, P.G program(MDS course) was started in 2009 in 7
specialties which was duly recognized by Govt. of India
and DCI in 2012.
Prof.(Dr.)R. R Paul took over the charge of Principal in
January, 2014 and Prof.(Dr.)) T. K Saha continued as
Director.
The students of this institute are admitted both from Govt.
nominated list and also from management quota. They are
excellent in their academic accomplishments and
extracurricular activities like sports and atheletics.They
also perform drama, fashion show, dance. A student in 3rd
year BDS named Ishan Mukherjee participated in National
Rowing Competition and won a medal. A number of BDS
passed students got chance in MDS admission in various
colleges through National and state MDS Entrance Exam.
The institute holds seminar on modern topics in every
month. In addition to this internationally famous foreign
speakers visit this college and deliver lectures. Hands – on
course with live demonstrations on patients are also
organized on latest topic like LASER. Indian Dental
Association, Federation of Operative Dentistry of India,
Indian Society of Periodontology organise their
Symposium and Workshop in this institution on a regular
basis.
The outdoor departments of the hospital is an inseparable
part of the institute which caters dental treatment services
to 500 ailing patients daily in addition to attached indoor
ward in a nearby hospital where various outstanding oral &
maxillofacial surgeries are performed in patients suffering
from cancer, cysts, trauma, and other oral surgical
problems. All types of latest treatment modalities are given
to the patients including soft tissue Laser and Ultrasonics.
On a regular basis dental implants are given to partially
edentulous patients. In fact all types of Dental and Oral &
Maxillofacial procedures are performed in this institute.
A good number of community dental health services are
rendered to schools and almost in all book fairs. Satellite
dental centry is set up in Rahara Ramkrishna Mission
where qualified dental surgeons attend regularly and
execute primary dental health care to the neighbouring
patients including the people of the Mission.

Prof(Dr.) Amit Ray is an extremely dedicated teacher & maxillofacial surgeon. He is presently
Head of the Department of OMFS , GNIDSR. He is a friend, philosopher & guide for the new
age of maxillofacial surgeons in West Bengal. He has more than a dozen international & national
publications to his credit. He is the national faculty of many national specialty conferences and
workshops
He has to his credit treated successfully hundreds of patients of oral cancer, trauma and TMJ
disorders. He has extensively given lectures & workshops on behalf of IDA in almost every district
of West Bengal for the betterment of the society. He is a visionary & one of the most popular PG
teachers of our state. He is the main inspiration for the formation of AOMSI West Bengal State
Branch. He was the scientific convenor of IDC 2013 , which was highly praised for successful &
well attended scientific programme among all Indian Dental Conferences.
