THE WOODLANDS at John Knox Village
Meaningful Life in a Loving Home
Community Celebrates Tree Topping Ceremony Thankfully, the weather cooperated the morning of April 28, as more than 200 residents and guests gathered in our Heritage Tower parking lot for the official Tree Topping Ceremony of our new skilled nursing center, The Woodlands at John Knox Village. In building construction, a Tree Topping or Topping Out Ceremony is one of the industry’s oldest customs. It is celebrated once the last beam is in place or concrete is poured to complete the structure of the building. A tree and U.S. Flag are placed on top. The April 28 event acknowledged the completion our the seven stories and roof of The Woodlands at John Knox Village. The guest speakers that day included City of Pompano Beach Mayor Lamar Fisher, Chief Executive Officer Gerry Stryker, President Robert Scharmann, Board Member Dirk DeJong and a special closing blessing by resident Reverend Dr. David Jenkins. With whistles blowing, the Christmas palm, donated by Nanak’s Landscaping Inc., was raised to the top. Also, a golden broom was presented to The Weitz Company for maintaining a safe environment during the construction process. More photos on the back and on the Website (www.woodlandsjkv.com). In mid‐April, John Knox Village welcomed representatives from THE GREEN HOUSE® Project, Deborah Wiegand, Project Guide, and Mary Hopfner‐Thomas, Project Manager. The purpose of the visit was to meet with leadership, staff, residents and families to explore ways of incorporating The Green House model of care in existing buildings ‐ Gardens West (assisted living) and the Village Glen (memory care). During the visit, they collected information from various John Knox Village representatives, indentified strengths and opportunities that can be aligned with The Green House model, discovered current care giving practices and explored staffing practices in regards to responsiveness to elders’ needs and schedules.
