Road Sweeper Operator




Salary: $56,400 per annum ($1,084 per week)
Plus up to 14.5% superannuation (conditions apply)
9-day fortnight

The City is seeking an experienced person in sweeping services including gully eduction. The
ideal candidate must have a current HR driver’s licence and Construction Safety Induction Card
(White Card).
You will be required to work and assist in the development of sweeping programs, ensuring that
the City’s infrastructure assets are maintained in accordance with current best practice and
public safety requirements.

2. KEY OBJECTIVES

To work as part of a team operating plant and equipment including a road sweeper,
providing skilled assistance to Operation Services Engineering Construction and
Maintenance in accordance with daily work programs as directed by the supervisor.

Promote a safe work environment.

Provide positive internal and external customer service.
3. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

City roads and pedestrian areas are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.

Ensure all works are undertaken in a productive and timely manner accordance with
City of Joondalup guidelines, ISO 9001, specifications, procedures and adopted
practices.

Ensure diligence in relation to the use and user maintenance of plant and equipment
in accordance with City and manufacturer requirements and safe operating
procedures.

Ensure that Traffic Management operations are conducted safely and in accordance
with Main Roads Code of Practice.

Comply with OSH legislation, City protocols, procedures and other OSH related
requirements, and actively support the City safety systems.

Customer service is delivered in accordance with the City’s Customer Service
Charter and relevant protocols and procedures.
4. KEY ACTIVITIES
ACTIVITIES
Outcome:










To deliver sweeper cleaning services that include:
- Sweeping of pavements throughout the City to set programs
- Provide sweeping services for works crews and other areas
- Gully educting services
- Attending to traffic accidents, fuel spills etc
Report or provide information on the condition of the City’s assets within the road
reserve.
Understand and apply quality control to sweeping operations.
Make recommendations on scheduling of road sweeper services.
Complete daily timesheets accurately.
Operate and maintain machinery and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s
instruction and safe operating procedures.
Report any defects, loss or damage to machinery to the Senior Leading Hand.
Identify and report on maintenance issues and carry out basic routine maintenance to the
road sweeper.
Provide on-the-job training to employees as required.
Perform other duties as requested within the scope of this level and in accordance with
skills, knowledge and experience.

Road sweeping techniques and practices including gully educting.
Sound mechanical knowledge of road sweeper equipment.

Experience in:
 Operating road sweepers to programs and time frames.
 The use of small plant and equipment, including a blower.
 Working within a team environment.
Qualifications/Clearances:

 This position works with limited supervision within procedures and guidelines.
 This position is able to make recommendations on road sweeping operations and
areas requiring road sweeping operations and works scheduling.
 This position is responsible for quality and standard of work performed, including
productivity and safety.
 This position is responsible for the operation of specialist machinery.
 Solutions to problems generally found in precedents, guidelines or processes.
Assistance available from supervisor.
 This position requires medium level decision making on technical aspects of plant and
equipment as well as estimation of cleanliness of roads and pathways.
