JW House Board Names Roy Truitt as Executive Director
Hospitality executive brings years of hotel management experience to JW House
SANTA CLARA, November 2014 – JW House, located on the Santa Clara campus of Kaiser
Permanente, announced today the appointment of Roy Truitt as Executive Director. Mr. Truitt,
a seasoned leader in the hotel industry, will bring over 30 years of marketing and hospitality
experience to JW House.
JW House has served more than 2,000 overnight guests since its grand opening in 2008 and is
on track to serve a record breaking 700 unduplicated families in 2014. Through both overnight
services and daytime respite for families visiting a loved one in the hospital, JW House provides
a home away from home for families facing medical crises.
Amy and Seth, parents of little Vivan, share a story common to JW House families; Through
Vivian’s three years, they have been in and out of the hospital while Vivian battles tumors down
her tongue into her throat. Amy says of JW House “we had a place to be a family, just steps
away from the ICU. We are so thankful for the ongoing support we received from JW House.”
Mr. Truitt comes with a wealth of leadership experience in the hospitality field and in nonprofit
organizations in Silicon Valley. He has served as General Manager for both Hyatt and Hilton
hotels, and served in executive positions with Mission City Community Fund Santa Clara, Teen
Challenge NorCal/Nevada, Santa Clara Rotary, and Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce. He
currently serves as a Civil Service Commissioner for the City of San Jose.
About JW House: Located at 3850 Homestead Road, on the Kaiser Permanente campus, JW
House began as the idea of Jan-Willem (JW) Knapen, a boy who, in the midst of battling cancer,
wanted to do something to help other children and families facing similar situations. JW House
offers both overnight and day-use respite for families who otherwise might be separated or
have to sleep on hospital benches while their loved one undergoes treatment. For more
information, please visit www.jwhouse.org or call (408) 246-2224.
