Poland–Finland – Let’s create an innovative bridge !
Helsinki, 21st-23rd April, 2015
Poland-Finland – Let’s create an innovative bridge!
This spring a group of ICT companies and institutions from Polish Pomerania Region is coming to
Finland to share with their innovative projects and look for business partners. It is a good reason
to take a closer look at the dynamically growing branch of information and communication
technologies in a neighboring country. We would like to give you an opportunity to meet and
find business, technology or research partner and establish contacts for future cooperation.
The Polish delegation will visit Finland in the period of 21st-23rd April 2015. In the mission’s
agenda is a Polish-Finnish seminar and b2b talks with Polish ICT companies and institutions
which will take place on 22nd April 2015 (Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre). The event
will take place during the ICTExpo 2015 in Helsinki and will be a perfect place for a get together
and discussion on opportunities of bilateral collaboration. Moreover, delegates will meet with
sectoral companies and institutions.
Meeting the delegation you can share your ideas, innovative projects, products and services
which could be a starting point to discussion about opportunities for development of an
international cooperation.
Let's create an innovative bridge between Poland and Finland!
Sincerely yours
Mirosław Kamiński

Who we are
The Pomeranian Regional Development Agency (PRDA) from Słupsk in Poland is a main
organizer of the economic mission to Finland for regional companies representing ICT sector.
The Agency implements a lot of projects, co-financed by the European Union funds, aimed at
strengthening the regional entrepreneurship. It also plays an important role in promoting export
and linking contacts between local SMEs and their foreign counterparts by organizing seminars
and conferences, promoting companies at international fairs, economic missions and study
visits. In addition, PRDA is also offering services such as: business consultancy, trainings, real
estate brokerage, job placement.
Since 1997 PRDA has managed the Słupsk Special Economic Zone, which supports economic
development of the central region of Pomerania (including Pomeranian and West Pomeranian
Regions). There are over 50 companies within the Zone, representing national and foreign
capital.
Slupsk Technology Incubator - fish-eye view
Słupsk Technology Incubator, managed by PRDA, supports creation of modern economy based
on innovative technologies. Within the incubator it has just been opened the Automation,
Robotics and Vision Systems Lab, equipped with Japanese OMRON's equipment.
Polish ICT sector
The Polish ICT sector has a very good
growth prospects due to a very large Polish
intellectual capital, but its potential still
remains partly hidden.
However, positive examples of International
and Polish companies that found their place
in the international knowledge economy
and a very good condition of Polish
economy in crisis do not leave doubts that
Poland consistently manages to build a
strong position on the European and global scene and its role in the growing ICT sector will
increase each year.
Pomerania Region, located in Northern Poland, is not an exception. A lot of companies engaged
in software production, IT services and R&D activity have been successfully developing its
activity for last few years, becoming reliable partner for international businesses. In fact,
according to Association of Business Services Leaders in Poland (largest association of
companies providing business services in Poland) Report 2012 it is R&D and IT services that are
the specialization of the Pomerania Region.
ICT in Pomerania Region – sector with largest investment potential
The Pomeranian region is presently the most dynamically developing
region in the ICT sector. In combination with specialized employees, a
well-developed scientific base, the availability of state-of-the-art office
and production areas, the most dynamically developing airport in
Poland (with best in Poland connectivity to Nordic Countries) and
access to the two largest ports in the country, it creates comfortable conditions for the
development of activity both in research and development and IT services, as well as electronics
production.
Technologies from the Pomeranian region – potential of the sector in a nutshell:


Did you know that Intel has a R&D centre in Gdańsk, which is one of the largest in
Europe employing over 1000 engineers?
Check your smartphone! It is possible that you have apps from Gdańsk installed on your
smartphone, including on iPhone by Playsoft or on BlackBerry by SpeedNet.




Pomerania speaks your language as well - IVONA Software – a developer and producer
of the IVONA text-to-speech synthesizer which became a part of Amazon in 2013.
Pomerania is also unique for 3D interactive training system (Inspection Simulator) which
was made by engineers from Polish DNV branch.
In Slupsk Technology Incubator operates the Automation, Robotics and Visual Systems
Lab, equipped with OMRON’s equipment.
The Pomeranian ICT cluster – significance of the advanced technologies sector for
economic development of the region as well as the commitment of the region in
supporting the development of this sector.
The biggest companies operating in the
sector: Intel, SII, Lufthansa Systems,
Siemens, Adva Optical Networking, Axciom,
IBM,
Kainos,
Finesos,
Compuware,
Synopsys, Atena, Blue Media, Flextronics,
Vector, Radmor, Telekom-Telmor, DGT,
Platan, Enamor, Kaliop, Sprint.
Last year was record-breaking for
Pomeranian Region in terms of number of
OMRON’s equipment in Slupsk Technology Incubator
investments in the IT sector. In 2014 alone
our region saw new additions in the form of
such companies as: SMT Software, PGS Software, Powel, Epam, Schibsted, Movo, three of which
come from Scandinavia (Powel, Schibsted, Movo). These numbers reflect a growing interest of
the Nordics in our region. In order to build business relationships in the Baltic area effectively, it
is essential that our domestic companies start showing a greater interest in the Scandinavian
market.
