“ALL THE DAYS THE PLAGUE IS
IN HIM… HE SHALL DWELL
ALONE; OUTSIDE THE CAMP
SHALL BE HIS DWELLING” (Vayikra
13:46)
The sages said that since this person spoke
slander and caused separation of friends by
speaking against others, he too should be
separated from others. This will allow him
to ponder and experience what he brought
onto others and will bring him to
repentance.
Being alone is a great distress. Everyone
needs people. While some people have a
greater need to be around others and
some have a lesser need, being in isolation
causes much suffering.

though. Your friends and relatives are
bound to do things that irritate you. If you

keep in mind that the alternative to having
people around is being alone, you will
view the drawbacks of having friends and
relatives as a price well worth paying.
When you purchase an item, you usually
focus on what you are gaining not on the
money you are giving up. Similarly, keep
the focus on how you gain from other
people and it will free you from focusing
on the drawbacks. When you view others
in a positive manner, you will be much
calmer in your search for strategies to
influence them to stop their difficult
behavior.
For this week write a list of five positive
aspects of a person in your life who is
difficult to interact with and focus on the
positive. This will lead to more peace and
serenity within yourself.
Have an enlightening Shabbos!
