I am sure you are looking forward to returning to your cottages on a more regular basis. In the meantime, your volunteer Kettles Board has been working hard to provide you with a full summer of Kettles activities again this year, including the Opening BBQ, Junior Program, Sailing Club, Regatta and Socials. 2015 Dates Spring Clean Up Saturday, June 20th 10:00AM-noon Jr. Program Registration ! T ha nk yo u, P a ul The Junior swimming, sailing and craft programs are once again under the outstanding leadership of Troy Comish and his capable and experienced group of instructors. Registration is on June 27th at the Kettles docks, with the first session starting on June 29th. The Annual Regatta, a highlight of the summer for many Kettles families, will be on Saturday August 1st with Mark Noakes as Commodore. Please contact Mark if you can help organize and run the Regatta. No special talents required! More inside! . Kettles Annual FAMILY Regatta….2015 So much to do …swim far and fast, swim in a nightgown, swim with a flutterboard, eat a burger, paddle around Shaw Island, paddle with your spouse, paddle standing up! You can have even more fun and meet more people be being a member of the Regatta Crew. You can judge swimming or canoeing, help prep lunch, tally up scores in the comfort of the pontoon boat, help set up on Friday night – so many little ways to be a part of the Regatta Crew. Contact commodore, Mark Noakes, [email protected], to sign up. Mark Warren was new to the Regatta BBQ team in the summer of 2014 and bravely agreed to lead the intrepid group! Not only did he and many volunteers do an awesome job but afterward, Mark said “Sign me up for next year!” You TOO can be part of the Kettles “BBQ dynasty”. As the incoming President of the Kettles it is such a pleasure to have the opportunity to give back to the organization that has provided my children with sailing, swimming, the Regatta and other social events.! Having first arrived on the Kettles scene 7 years ago, I never would have thought I would be in this position. You can help make the Kettles a better Association, for your kids and grandkids or just use it as a way to meet more people. No matter your age or experience the Kettles is now looking for new members that want to get involved and help provide more events and activities. Swimming The Kettles swimming program offers: • Red Cross Preschool • Red Cross Swim Kids (levels 1-10) • RLSS Swim Patrol (Rookie, Ranger and Star) • Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. The weekend sailing is always fun, always interesting, sometimes crazy and you’ll be glad you came…. Classes are 30 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the program and are Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. ALL boat classes and sailors welcome! Summer 2015 Schedule Check the website for updates! Below is the proposed schedule, there can be changes due to weather and there may be a couple more cocktail parties…. 2. Sailing - The Kettles offers 2 different sailing programs : All sailing class enrolment will be limited – please pre-register! Crafts - The Kettles Crafts program gets kids applying their artistic talents towards a wide variety of craft projects: • Monday & Wednesday mornings • Class sizes are limited for each session. • 5-7 year olds from 9:30-10:30 • 8-10 year olds from 10:30-12:00 Sat Aug 22 - KSC Race # 2 Party hosted by Janny & John Beare Sat Aug 29 – KSC Race #3 + End-of-Season Sailing Awards Party hosted by Chris & Carolyn Horan Race Day Details: • • • Location: East Bay Start time: 2PM 2-3 consecutive races WE 3 SUMMER :) Thank YOU Paul Doolan, Chair of The Church of the Kettles, and Paul Huyer, President of The Kettles Association are very proud to announce the extraordinary success of the fundraising campaign. The donors in this community have contributed $56,136 in donations. $5,400 of the total came directly from the proceeds of the 2014 Silent Auction. Thank you to all those who contributed to the auction and to the Silent Auction Co-Chairs Gayle McGraw and Lindsay Hutton. The funds have been or will be used for the following: • • • • East dock replacement (2014) Reinforcing rods for the church building (2014) New church foundations (2014) Repairs to the West dock, West dock arm and ramp to the church (2015) Congratulations and thanks to all! All campaign funds will be maintained in a separate fund, not only so that donations to the fund and expenses for maintenance and repairs may be itemized and reports made to you on a regular basis, but in the event that you wish to support the capital fund on a periodic basis there will be a discreet fund into which the funds can be placed. We plan to publish a list of donors to the campaign in the 2015 edition of the Kettles Handbook. If you did not have an opportunity to make a donation to the campaign last summer, we hope that you will now consider donating to our wonderful community to ensure that the future generations will enjoy the benefits that mean so much to all of us. co nt President’s Message (continued) . Thank you to all of the members who donated to the very successful joint Church of the Kettles and Kettles Association fundraising campaign. Please be sure to pay your annual membership dues either on-line or by mail as soon as you read this newsletter. Membership dues go towards the Regatta, Handbook, dock maintenance and insurance. This is my final year as President and it has been my privilege to serve you. I’m pleased that the creative and energetic Lisa Matlock will be nominated at the Annual General Meeting on June 27th to take over as President.
