Dear Parents/Guardians, April 27, 2015 Please take time to review and discuss the Senior Year End Activities information with your senior as we complete the 2015 school year. All fines and obligations need to be paid by Friday, May 22nd. Students will not receive an official transcript until fines are paid in full. Listed below are several important dates and points of information relevant to your senior. Graduation Information/Expectations Commencement Participation response must be submitted by Friday, May 8th. Please click on the following link for response form: https://docs.google.com/a/kaneland.org/forms/d/1SZdBksfAUrBUXtK4CJku9E2_ld0 RgoFj_KACQ0UtzeY/viewform Commencement (Graduation) is Sunday, May 31st @ 4:00 pm. @ NIU Convocation Center, 1525 W Lincoln Hwy, DeKalb, IL 60115 Commencement Practice – Seniors are required to be at the high school by 2:00 pm for practice on May 31st. The high school will bus all seniors and teachers to NIU for practice in advance of the ceremony. Caps & Gowns will be worn for Commencement (all graduates will wear black caps and gowns) Your senior’s picture will be taken when they receive their diploma cover. Pictures will be available for purchase. It is important to stress to your student that graduation is considered a formal program and all graduates are expected to complete their senior year in good standing. Your student is expected to dress appropriately and to exhibit proper behavior that is befitting a Commencement ceremony. Students who choose to dress inappropriately and not adhere to graduation behavioral expectations will not be allowed to participate in the Commencement. With the large number of family and friends attending Commencement, it is important that the “Class of 2015” be remembered as representing the KNIGHT tradition in exemplary fashion. All seniors are expected to adhere to all school rules identified in the Kaneland High School Code of Conduct throughout the remainder of the school year. Any senior placed under suspension may forfeit their opportunity to participate in any or all end of year senior activities including the Graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 31, 2015. The senior officers are requesting candid high school photos of your graduate, a baby picture and a senior picture to be used in a slide show presentation during the ceremony and baccalaureate. Caps and gowns will be distributed during the lunch periods in the cafeteria. Don’t forget your balance due. Herff-Jones will be mailing reminders. Contact Herff-Jones (815-756-4743) NOW if caps & gowns were not ordered. Attire: Commencement is a formal ceremony. Caps & Gowns will be worn at the ceremony. Boys are to wear dress shirts and dress slacks, sport or suit coats are not necessary. Dress shoes and socks are to be worn. Levis, tennis shoes, and flip-flops are not acceptable. Girls should wear an appropriate dress, skirt, blouse, or slacks. Students who choose to dress inappropriately will not be allowed to participate in the Commencement ceremony. Senior Spirit Week Monday, May 18th – Friday, May 22nd Monday – Ugly, Tuesday – Toga, Wednesday – Senior Citizen, Thursday – Dorky, Friday – Future (College or Career) Senior Music Awards Monday May 18th @ 6pm Baccalaureate (optional participation) Tuesday, May 19th @ 7pm (see student’s virtual backpack for more information) Senior Academic Honors Night Thursday, May 21st @ 7:00 pm Honors night will be held in the Auditorium. Student Services will be sending invitations to those students who will be honored. All students and family are encouraged to attend. Seniors Last Day & Senior Picnic Friday, May 22nd during lunches Final Exams Will be administered during regular class period per teacher discretion Commencement Practice Sunday, May 31st @ 2:00 pm Report to the high school by 2:00pm. IT IS MANDATORY THAT ALL SENIORS ATTEND THIS PRACTICE. If a senior does not attend this practice, he/she will not be permitted to participate in the Commencement ceremonies. Seniors will be transported to NIU on a bus for commencement practice. Commencement (Graduation) Sunday, May 31st @ 4:00 pm Senior students will be transported by bus to NIU for graduation practice before the ceremony. Students are to report to their assigned rooms at the high school by 2:00 pm. Senior Athletic Recognition Dinner Monday, June 1 @ 6:00 pm Recognition Dinner will be held at the high school in the cafeteria & auditorium. Any senior who has earned a varsity letter in athletics, cheerleading, or pom-poms during their senior year is eligible to attend.
