QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
ABOUT GRADUATION
1. When is the graduation rehearsal?
Tuesday, May 19, 9am in the Main Gym.
2. When do students receive their caps and gowns?
On Tuesday, May 19, immediately following the
rehearsal, caps and gowns will be distributed in
the Main Gym at Grandview High School. ALL

3. How many tickets will my family receive?
Each senior will receive 10 tickets at the mandatory parent meeting. If you will not use all of
your tickets, please return the extras to Mrs.
Koerner in the activities office as soon as
possible.
4. What time will
ceremony begin?

At 12:00pm in The Magness Arena.
Doors will be open for audience seating
at 11:00 a.m.
5. When should graduates arrive at the Ritchie
Center?
All graduates should report to the Hamilton

University of Denver by 10:45 a.m. on MAY 21.
Enter through the lower doors along Buchtel
Blvd. on the north side of the Ritchie Center.
Please be prompt.
6. What should seniors wear under their
gowns?
7. May we take pictures during the ceremony?
You may take as many pictures as you wish from
your seat. Guests will not be allowed on the
arena floor at any time. The ceremony will be
videotaped by a professional videographer. Order
forms for videos will be available at the senior
parent meetings and online on the GHS web page.
Professional photos of graduates will also be taken.
Remember, graduates will keep their caps and
gowns, so many photo opportunities will be
available.
8. How long will the ceremony last?
Approximately 2 hours.
9. Where can parents meet their graduates after the
ceremony?
Students will exit to the bleachers south of
Hamilton gym. Please do not enter the gym, as
we will be handing out diplomas.
10. Is handicapped seating available?
Yes. Please enter through the lower level doors
along Buchtel Blvd. on the north side of the
Ritchie Center. Junior Escorts will be available to
direct you.
11. Will assistive listening devices or sign interpreters be available?
Yes. Contact Diane Koerner at 720-886-6527 and
specify your need.

12. Are seats reserved?
No. People will be seated on first come, first
served basis.
If you have any other questions, Diana
Stordeur, Graduation Coordinator, will be available
in the lobby following the mandatory senior parent
meetings. You may also contact her at 720-886-6696.
Girls: Dresses or skirts and blouses; dress shoes
preferred (no spiked heels allowed on arena
floor). Boys: Slacks, collared shirt mandatory;
tie and dress shoes preferred.
Helpful Links
We ask that students pay particular attention to
their shoes. Decorations on caps and gowns are
not permitted.

Senior To Do List
C o mmen c e me nt is a communi ty event.
Faculty, students, family and honored
guests share in recognizing this important
milestone. It is a solemn, respectful
occasion accented by the joy of significant
accomplishment and the commencement
of another stage in life.
The ideas below have proven successful
in providing for an appropriate ceremony.
Audience Guidelines:
Remember your tickets.
Admission will be by ticket only.

Spectators should make every effort to remain
seated during the entire ceremony and until the
last graduate has recessed.

Videotaping will be done by a professional videographer. A professional photographer will be
photographing graduates as they receive their
diplomas. Pictures by family members during the
ceremony may be taken from seats in the arena.

Recognition and appreciation are best expressed
by applause only. We want each graduate’s name
to be clearly heard.

Items which could disrupt or detract from the ceremonies should be left outside. Air horns are
STRICTLY prohibited.

Ushers and Security personnel will help provide a
positive atmosphere for the ceremony.

Gym. Bring your cap, gown, tassel, and cords, if
applicable. Leave everything else at home.
Remember


Commencement is a school-related activity conducted at an outside location. Behavior expectations and policies normally in force at school
will apply to all activities associated with the
commencement ceremony.
The throwing of mortar boards (caps) or anything
else is prohibited.

Parking
We advise families and graduates to make a
preliminary trip to the University of Denver campus
to become familiar with the location of the Ritchie
Center and parking facilities. A $7.00 parking fee is
required in all lots and parking garages at the
university.
