Springtime in Kings Point
Let’s Go Out & Play!
April in Kings Point is the doorway to summertime. If the weather isn’t postcard-perfect, give it
five minutes to transform itself. Spring is also a time of wishing ’bon voyage’ to our wintertime
neighbors returning to their summertime homes. It’s a great time to gather outdoors on the patio
or the courts and the swimming pools, because it’s never too late to have a great Spring Break!

Kings Point Celebrates ‘Crown Jewel’ March 20
By Michael Crook
Pointer Editor
More than 9,000 Kings Point residents continue enhancing their community with
the most impressive addition to their wide array of amenities in more than 15 years:
a $4.3 million fitness and wellness center that will be celebrated March 20 with an allcommunity party and Open House, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We have listened carefully to our neighbors throughout Kings Point and we are
delivering what they want: More and better fitness and wellness options,” said Jim
Haggerty, president of the Federation of Kings Point Associations, who has been
closely involved in the project from start to finish.
“The 2020 Centre is now the best-equipped, most inviting facility of its kind between Brandon and Bradenton,” said Ginger Anzalone, Vice President of Vesta
Property Services, Inc., who oversaw the project on behalf of Kings Point, where
Vesta manages the community’s clubhouses, security, and other amenities. The active life is proven to be a better life,” said Anzalone, a board member of the International Council on Active Aging.
The March 20 event is open to all residents of Sun City Center. There will be popular Food Truck cuisine, live musical entertainment, a ribbon-cutting and dedication,
opportunities to connect with some of Kings Point’s many clubs and groups, speak
with residents about the project, and take a walk-through tour of the fitness/wellness
center. The 25,000-square-foot building once housed headquarters for the developer
of Kings Point. Soon, its fitness floor will have 15 treadmills and 14 other cardio units
and 30 strength stations. A fully appointed spa and salon will offer professional services. Meeting rooms will be used for everything from lectures to cooking classes.

Safety & Security
H
elp us keep Kings Point Sun City Center
the safest place to live in southern Hillsborough County. I need you to know that
three Kings Point homes have been broken
-into this year. I could explain to you that, statistically, in a
community of 9,000 great people, this is a very small number
of burglaries. Across Sun City Center, outside our gates, a
dozen break-ins happened in the same time frame.
But our ethic is this: One incident is too many!
In this situation, it is believed that one perpetrator with
the same “modus operandi” is the primary cause of all the
break-ins. There are several common elements to these incidents: The resident had just departed their home, suggesting
the home was being watched. The resident(s) had valuable
jewelry, cash or coin in their homes. And the perpetrator apparently knocked on the door and, getting no answer, gained
entry through the back of the home and stole only what is
small and valuable and easy to carry concealed in pockets or
a backpack.
Please consider removing all such valuables and cash
from your home and store them in a safe deposit box, or in a
quality safe bolted to your floor. Also, please be watchful for
persons or vehicles who seem to be out of place. If you see
suspicious activity, report it first via 911 to the Hillsborough
County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), then to Security. We are
working closely with the HCSO to solve these crimes and put
the burglars behind bars.
Traffic safety in Kings Point
I have received many complaints about traffic issues, so
let me share this information with you. Our Kings Point
community has over 55 miles of roadway. Street safety is an
important concern to Kings Point residents and Security Department officers. Numerous speed limit and stop signs are
located throughout the community, repeatedly informing
residents of our speed limits and required stops.
These laws are enforced for both cars and golf
carts, in Kings Point, by HCSO deputies who will ticket
residents who are not obeying the laws of the road.
These citations include speeding fines or stop sign violation fines of up to $200. Points are also added to the
driver’s record, which may trigger higher insurance
rates and/or suspension of the license if excessive
points are accumulated.
Pedestrians and bike riders are requested to help
to keep our streets safer by walking and riding in the
appropriate areas and by wearing light colored or reflective clothing. “Ninja walkers and bike riders” who
wear dark clothing at night and during early morning
hours may be invisible to motorists until the vehicle is
very close to the walker or rider. Reflective vests are
available to Kings Point residents in the COA office for
a minimal cost. Cyclists are required by law to obey
the appropriate street signs and should always exercise
caution when coming to any community entrance,
street intersection or high traffic area.
A strong concern of the Kings Point Security Department is the speed of vehicles entering the front and
back gate. SPEED LIMITS and SLOW warnings need
to be observed, not only to keep officers safe, but to
also allow officers to direct traffic. Speeding cars make
identification of resident decals and current passes
challenging. Vehicles in the outside lane that slow
down to allow officers to see their decal or pass are
greatly appreciated. Residents, who wait to allow officers to direct non-entry allowed vehicles to u-turn and
proceed to the visitor lane or to exit, give officers the
time they need to be able to check vehicles behind
them. We would like to give a special thank you to all
residents who help us by slowing down and/or for
kindly waiting for us to direct vehicles.
Joe Burt is Kings Point’s Chief of Security.
