ENTRY PACKET
General Information
HOW THE TALENT CONTEST WORKS:
The Talent Contest is open to residents from any county but each contestant must be able to perform in the
division and category they have entered. Should an act fail to perform in the division they have entered, that act
forfeits the right to advance.
Application deadline is 5 pm, June 21st, 2015.
Contestants can enter online at www.kloo.com or by attending the live auditions at The Lancaster Mall, June 5th
at 6pm. All application information is posted online at KLOO’s website, and live audition entrants must bring
completed paper work to the live auditions. All application forms and requirements can be found online at
www.kloo.com.
Each application will be reviewed by The Talent Contest Committee to determine the acts that will compete at
the finals July 9th, 2015 at the Marion County Fair. Acts that are selected will be notified by phone no later than
Friday, June 26th, 2015.
Day of Talent Contest – Thursday, July 9th, 2015 – 7p - 9p
The day of the finals, check in starts at 6pm and contestants must arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the
start of the contest. The contest will begin after contestants check in with contest coordinator. Performance
order will be determined prior to the day of the contest by The Talent Contest Committee. The Children
Division will perform followed by the Youth Division followed by a short intermission and then the Adult
Division will perform. The judging forms for all Divisions will be tallied and one winner from each division
will be announced and presented their prize. Marion County Fair Talent Contest winners must report to the
Talent Contest Coordinator for information and instructions on the Oregon State Fair Talent Contest. Each
contestant will receive free admission to the fair plus 1 admission ticket for a fried/family member.
THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS FINAL
Instruments: Instruments are the sole responsibility of the act. The Marion County Fair Talent Contest
Committee assumes no liability for said equipment or responsibility for procurement of same.
Financial Responsibility: Expenses are the responsibility of the contestant(s) for transportation, meals or
rooms.
Pictures / Taping of Contest: The Marion County Fair Talent Contest may be taped or have pictures taken at
various performances. All performers or their legal guardians give the Marion County Fair and Bicoastal Media
(aka KLOO Radio) the right to use their pictures and photos in any way necessary to promote the contest in
future years with no residuals or payment expected.

Rules & Regulations
Please read all rules and regulations before submitting your application. Submission of entry form and meeting
requirements does not ensure acceptance. Marion County Fair Talent Contest Committee approval is required. Failure
to comply with the entry instructions is cause for disqualification.
1. Entry deadline is June 21st, 2015 – no exceptions.
2. No entry fee is required to apply.
3. Employees and immediate family members of KLOO Radio (Bicoastal Media), Marion County Fair, co-sponsors,
and the Talent Contest Committee staff are ineligible to compete in the contest. Previous year KLOO Talent
Contest Winners are eligible to compete.
4. Contestants are only allowed one entry in one category.
5. The performing categories are as follows:
1. Vocal (solo, duets – may accompanied by guitars or cd – no full bands will be accepted)
2. Dance (tap, jazz, modern, ballet, hip hop)
6. There are 3 age divisions: Children Division (ages 5 – 9) Youth Division (ages 10 - 17) and Adult Division (ages 18
& over)
7. All entries must include all requested information and materials noted on the Entry Form; otherwise the entry
might not be accepted by The Talent Contest Committee.
8. All contestants must be amateurs, which means they may not belong to a union related to their talent, nor may
their talent provide more than 50 percent of their income (based on income for the preceding tax year
exceeding $7,500).
9. Previous First Place winners of the Oregon Fairs Talent Search (OFTS) may not compete in the OFTS for 2 years
after their win, regardless of whether they enter a different category of division. Previous winners may compete
at the county level, if they win their category, they will forfeit their right to move onto the OFTS and the runner
up will take their place.
10. Entrants must observe all applicable rules and regulations or will be ineligible to participate. The Marion County
Fair and The Talent Contest Committee reserve the right to remove from The Talent Contest either prior to the
contest, at the contest, or any time during the contest, any entrant not conforming to the rules and regulations.
Any entrant refusing to follow instructions of security or The Talent Contest Officials will also be removed. The
Talent Contest Committee must approve all entries before performing on stage.
11. The Marion County Fair Talent Contest Committee shall have sole authority in selecting acts in the contest,
scheduling of those selected, and controlling stage sets, sound, lights, power and overall (master) volume. No
modification to stage acts, instruments, sounds or lights is to be made without prior approval from The Talent
Contest Stage Manager. Unauthorized modifications will result in a forfeiture of contestant’s opportunity to
perform. All acts will perform under the stage lighting provided by The Marion County Fair.

12. If an act has qualified for The Talent Contest and is unable to perform, the act forfeits its opportunity to
compete. Substitutions will not be allowed. The vacated time slot may be filled by The Talent Contest
Committee depending with talent on the alternate list established by The Talent Contest Committee.
13. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place from each age division, not category. The 1st
place winner from each age division wins the opportunity to compete in the OFTS August 30th, 2015 and must
read and agree to the OFTS Rules. Rules can be found at www.oregonstatefair.org.
14. Total performance time will be limited to 5 minutes per act which includes set up time.
15. Baton-twirlers or similar acts using batons, machetes, knives etc., will not be accepted. No fire, smoke or smokeeffect will be allowed on stage at any time.
16. In the Vocal category, performances are limited to one song and may not include more than three single
instruments or full drum sets. Lip sync performances are not allowed. Performances may be accompanied by
recorded tracks, but they may not include lead vocals.
17. In the Dance category, dancers may only be accompanied by a recorded track and may perform to only one
song.
18. The Talent Contest is not responsible for theft/damage or injury of any kind, to persons or instruments, props,
clothing etc., during, before or after the performance.
19. If the winner(s) are unable to attend the Oregon State Fair Talent Contest, the runner up in that age division will
fulfill the winner title.
20. The Talent Contest and KLOO Radio (Bicoastal Media) hold the right to use contestant's first name and photo or
video likeness for further publicity purposes. Entrants may opt out by noting their objection in writing on the
entrance form.
21. The Talent Contest Committee reserves the right of final decision on any matters pertaining to The Talent
Contest not specifically covered by the rules.
22. The following selection criteria will be considered:
1. Appropriateness for fair audiences
2. Capability of production at this particular talent contest facility
3. Originality, creativity and overall talent
4. Appearance
23. The following criteria will be used for judging at the finals:
1. Appearance: e.g. appropriate dress, quality and/or originality of costuming
2. Stage Presence: e.g. entertainment ability, confidence, connection with audience
3. Talent: e.g. vocal/dance/comedic ability, musicianship, skill level, difficulty of piece
24. The decision of the judges is final.
