May 2015 Page 1 Senior Officer: Ms. Heflin – [email protected] Senior Counselor: Ms. Garcia – [email protected] College Advisor: Mr. Vo – [email protected] LOS AMIGOS HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR NEWSLETTER Information for Students going to a UC Now that you have submitted your Statement of Interest to Register (SIR) to the college, if you are planning on living in their housing residence (i.e. dorms), you must complete your school’s housing application by May 15th. If you are attending a UC, you must take the Entry Level Writing Exam, unless you have passed AP Language with a score of 3 or better, get a score of 680 or better on your SAT writing, or get a 30 or higher on your ACT. You can sign up for the test through your UC portal. For more information, please go to: http://www.ucop.edu/elwr/ Information for Students going to a CSU Now that you have submitted your Statement of Interest to Register (SIR) to the college, if you are planning on living in their housing residence (i.e. dorms), you must complete your school’s housing application. Please check in to see what your school’s deadline is. It is highly encouraged for all students to attend any sort of summer program over the summer, especially if you can waive the fees to participate in such programs. All CSUs have an Early Start program for all students who still need to demonstrate proficiency in college English or Math through EPT/ELM, EAP results, AP scores, high school/college coursework, or SAT/ACT. By state law it is necessary to reach a certain Math/English course level by the end of your first year of college otherwise the school can dis-enroll you. Many students will need to take 1-3 courses in Math/English each in order to catch up, therefore you should begin taking classes for them as early as possible. If possible and necessary, please sign up for your Early Start ASAP. It is encouraged that you take your Early Start at the CSU you are currently going to. However, if you are planning on going to a CSU further away (i.e. Chico or Sacramento State), you may sign up with a CSU closer to us. For all students going to CSU Dominguez Hills, it would be extremely beneficial that you do their summer program because it will help you integrate into the school.
