and ends at Hidden Valley Park in Madison. Race course
is 8.5 miles.

MADDEST HAT CONTEST Are you mad? (All racers qualify!)
Design a hat (or some sort of river-worthy headgear) and wear it April 18.
The “maddest hat” wins a prize! The more creative, the better— just go
crazy! Hats must be worn during the race and fit under bridges
(clearance approx. 140 ft.).

• PRIOR EXPERIENCE IS MANDATORY.
• Shuttle provided to and from start to finish lines; runs
7:30 am to 2:30 pm (or race completion). Racers only—
no transportation for boats.
• The race begins at Harpersfield Covered Bridge
Metropark and finishes at Hidden Valley Park.
• Parking is available on the north and south sides of
Harpersfield Dam.
• Contestants leave in one-minute intervals.
The first boats depart at 9 am. Last boats depart by 10 am.
• All canoes and kayaks start approximately 10 yards from
shore, with participants outside their boats. No in-water
start for kayaks this year.
• All participants finish by securing their boats onshore,
and ringing the bell located at the picnic pavilion at
Hidden Valley Park.
• Life jackets must be worn at all times or racer will be
disqualified. No inflatable life jackets. No Type II life jackets.
• In each closed boat, the boater is required to have
sufficient flotation.
• ODNR Watercraft Division may inspect boats, equipment
and registrations.
• All racers not finishing the race on race day must report to
the race director as soon as possible at the finish pavilion or
call 440-413-5186.

• In the event of bad weather, high water, etc., Lake
Metroparks reserves the right to cancel, postpone or
alter the race for the safety of all racers and spectators.

property and the undersigned, for him or herself, hereby releases Lake Metroparks, its officers, its members and the race organizers and sponsors, as well as any person or organizations owning
land adjacent to or on which the race is conducted from every claim, liability, or demand of any kind for, or on account of, any personal injury or damage of any kind sustained by him or her.
