I also bought the Kindle
edition of the Story for children. Each Sunday morning,
Zachary, Aubrey, and Melanie gather around the kitchen
table. Using Skype I read a
chapter while they turn the pages of the hardcopy
of the book. After reading, we discuss what it
means to us. It’s the best part of the week.
I am in good hands here; the Navy Chaplains
provide opportunity to worship at Enduring Freedom Chapel. It may not be big and fancy, but it’s
pretty full on Sunday mornings. I look forward to
seeing you all soon at Lamb of God.
Best regards,
Lt. Greg Bosley, US Navy
Dear Friends,
It is my prayer that you are being blessed through
our “Story” series. If you have not been connected in
some way to this exciting journey it is not too late. We
still have books and opportunities to join a small group.
But we received an email recently that will warm your
heart. You may remember that we prayed for Greg,
Beverly and their children before Greg left for Africa.
Here is the email:
Friends,
Greetings from Djibouti, Africa. While I’m
deployed with Combined Joint Task Force- Horn
of Africa at Camp Lemonnier, technology helps
me stay in touch with the Lamb of God community. My beautiful wife, Beverly, sent me a copy
of the story which I enjoy reading. We unusually get out of work a little early on Saturday’s
which is when I listen to the previous week’s
sermon podcast. Thank you to those who make
that possible.
The “Story” is God’s story. But what is exciting is
that we are a part of His story forever!
God bless you!

At age 30, Paraskevi began leading Roman citizens

and Emperor Antonius Pius (138-161) summoned her to
his palace for questioning. He was attracted by her great
beauty and tried to get her to denounce her faith, even
promising to marry her and make her an empress. When

she refused, he had a helmet lined with nails compressed
on her head with a vice. It had no effect and many who
witnessed converted to Christianity.
Antonius continued to torture her by having her hang
by her hair while having her arms and hands burned with
torches. Antonius then had her immersed in a large caulered,
dron of oil and tar. Miraculously, she stood in it. Angered,

allowed Paraskevi to continue her missionary work.
After Antonius’ death in 161 AD, a plague broke out.
Romans took it as a sign from their gods that they were
angered by the tolerance of Christianity. Consequently,
under Marcus Aurelius persecutions against Christians resumed.
Paraskevi was continuing to spread the Gospel when
she was captured and arrested for refusing to sacrifice to
pagan gods, then thrown into a snake pit. She made the
sign of the cross over the serpent, which perished. Later,
priests demanded she be condemned to death by beheading. She was eventually tortured and beheaded by Governor Tarasius in 180 AD.
Her remains were eventually taken to Constantinople,
where they are venerated by the faithful to this day. Many
healing miracles are attributed to St. Paraskevi’s divine intervention. “It is said that merely coming in contact with
the dirt of her grave, faithful crippled could walk, demonized would return to health and the infertile would bear
children.” Healing of the blindness of the Antonius Pius
while in a heated cauldron has made her the Saint associated with the healing of eye ailments.

Monastery of Saint Paraskevi
This Greek Orthodox Monastery was established in
June 2004. It is a women’s monastery which currently has
four Sisters in residence and is headed by Abbess Paraskevi named for Saint Paraskevi, a Christian martyr at the
time of Roman persecution. “This is a Holy Monastery
of our Lord Jesus Christ, that is a place of repentance and
redemption for those leading a monastic life and for pious
pilgrims.”
Star of the Republic Museum
Following the monastery visit, we will visit the Star of
the Republic Museum, a star-shaped building representing
Texas’ fight for independence. There will be a three hour

from both secular and scriptural instructors.

History of a Favorite Easter Hymn
Samuel Medley (1733-1799) was born in Chestnut,
England. He was the son of a School teacher but was
privately educated by his grandfather. His grandfather
taught Samuel Christian values but he showed little interest. He became friends with boys who were not Godly, and age of 14, Samuel was given an apprenticeship
with an oil-man in London. He only lasted three years
and began searching for a way out. That way was to
join the military, (the British Royal Navy). While in the
Navy, Samuel’s life style did not improve, but rather
became even more crass and profane than before.
In 1759, during the Seven Year’s War, Samuel’s leg
was severely injured. The night before it was to be amputated Samuel reflected on the Biblical teachings from
his grandfather and began to vigorously pray. The next
day when the Doctor examined the leg, remarkable
healing was noted and the leg was spared.
Samuel eventually became a Pastor with a special
interest in the souls of seamen and servicemen. Of the
many poems he penned, his most famous became an
all-time favorite hymn of the Church: I Know That My
Redeemer Lives.
I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever living Head.

Everest - Conquering Challenges
with God’s Mighty Power
A Note from Shelly
I had a moment, I must admit, the other day. I had
a moment of envy. A person close in my life had just
received an awesome new job that would double their
pay and they would be making six figures plus amazing
benefits. I was happy for them, but only for a moment
it seemed. Satan worked very fast to make sure that my
happiness for them turned into envy. I was soon thinking thoughts such as “how unfair” and “why not me”. I
allowed Satan to take me to the pit with these thoughts
and I even stayed there for awhile…wallowing in my
own self-pity and my envious thoughts. I allowed Satan
to steal my joy for the other person.
As we have been studying The Story, I have received
how I am so much like the Israelites in the Old Testament. God provided for all of their needs and yet they
would look around them and get caught up in the same
self-pity and why not me moments that I was feeling. Many
of us have had these feelings –
many of us are maybe stuck in
these feelings. Focus on these
words for God for each of us
“And my God will supply every need of yours according to
his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.
God gives each one of us all of our needs according
to HIS riches in glory – not ours but HIS. God knows
our hearts, He knows our desires, and He provides our
needs for us. Focus this week on how God has provided for you and your needs and don’t allow Satan
to steal away your joy for others and your desire to
know God.

Small Groups for The Story
The process that has been developed for our faith journey through The Story is:
x Sunday morning worship the weekly story will be presented.
x Sunday morning in all Bible classes the weekly story will be probed deeper.
x Small Groups will then process the weekly story as we learn to apply the message to
our lives.
The small groups will consist of 4 - 6 people in each group. The smaller group size allows for
greater faith conversation. Groups have the option to meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. If
you would like to facilitate a small group please contact me. I will provide training and all
the materials you will need for your small group. If you would like to host a small group in
your home please contact me. Blessings in your faith journey.

Living Generously...even at Tax Time
April is a very special month for a number of reasons. As Christians, the most important reason is that
we celebrate Easter on April 5th. During this holy season, and especially on Easter we are reminded that we
are a people of hope. At Easter time, we join with the
saints of old and the saints of today in greeting each
other with these words: “Jesus Christ is risen! He is
risen indeed! Alleluia!” We have this hope and joy in
Christ even when our life on this side of Heaven experiences pain and disappointment, because we know that
in Christ the best is yet to come!
Another (not so happy) reason why April is special
is that it is time for filing our Income Tax. Paying taxes
has been a cause of distress for many generations…
even centuries. It was that way in the time of Christ.
When His enemies tried to trap Jesus with the question
of whether or not it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar,
Jesus wisely asked them to show him a coin. He asked
them whose portrait and inscription was on the coin.
“Caesar’s,” they replied. Then Jesus said those famous
words: “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God
what is God’s.” (Matthew 22:21)
These words of Jesus remind us that all authorities
(even those we may not like) have been instituted by
God. For the early Christians in the New Testament
times the governing power was from Rome, a corrupt
and anti-Christian power; yet the Bible teaches that
Christians both then and now are to submit to these
government authorities. Today as Christians, we “give
to Caesar” by paying the taxes we owe to our government, but we pray that our elected leaders would
lead our country in God-pleasing and people-blessing
ways.
In April, paying what is due to the government
should also remind us of the second part of Jesus’ command: “to give unto God what is God’s.” There are
many ways to render unto God what belongs to Him.
Stewardship includes the good management of all of
the seven “T’s”—Time (86,400 seconds each day),
Talents (abilities), Treasure (money), Testimony (our
sharing of the good news of Jesus), Touch (caring relationships), Tissue (caring for our bodies as temples
of the Holy Spirit), and even Trash (caring for God’s
creation).
April may be “Tax Time”, but Jesus reminds us that
the other seven “T’s” are equally important.
Lord Jesus, we are so thankful for the joy we have
in You, despite our circumstances. Show us how to
manage your gifts for God’s purposes, in a way that
brings glory to You and blessings for those around us.
Help us to strive for excellence in all we do, and remember that the best is yet to come!

I think names are important. As I recall, names started at the beginning. I am not sure who named Adam
(God?). But I am sure the Adam was smart enough to
call her Eve. Much better than “Hey You.” (Gen. 3:20).
God even put Adam in charge of naming the animals.
(Gen. 3:19) That way the lion could say “Good morning
Mr. Zebra.” And the Zebra could reply, “Good morning
Mr. Lion, thanks for not eating me.” God even has a
name, Moses asked him. “What is His name? “Then
what shall I tell them?” God answers “I am.” (Exodus
3:13-14) GREATEST ANSWER EVER!
So why do we NOT wear our name tags? Churches
use name tags, it is a great way of bringing the people
together. For some reason, we have gone against this
thinking. And I know you care, just witness the genuine
greeting when say “Peace be with you.” Why don’t we
say “Pease be with you Greg, or Tom, or Michelle.”
Name tags would be a great help. Sure would make it
easier to identify and welcome a nonmember, THEY
DON’T HAVE A NAME TAG.
Lola did her best encouraging you, even handed out
Snickers candy bars to ones with tags. She just ran out
of steam, not many responded.
If you lost your name tag, let us know and we will get
you another. Is hard to remember to take it off the dressing room table? I HAVE A PLAN! As you are heading
out, put it in your church mailbox. It will be there next
Sunday. And you may find something from the Church,
a letter, replacement name tag. THIS IS WIN, WIN!
Soooooooo, give it a try, let’s wear them so we can
say Good Morning Tom, Steve, Shirley, Susan…. And
you just may have a Snickers bar in your future.
One day closer to heaven

What Do We Value?
We at Lamb of God value people and want them to
experience the love of Christ, especially when they are
hurting, troubled, or in need. We demonstrate this value by ministering to people through Stephen Ministry.

Meet the Elders
Ron Walker
My name is Ron Walker. I was born in Manhattan,
NY, spent my early childhood in Wheeling, WV and
grew up in Spring, Texas.
I married my beautiful wife Stacy in 1999. We wanted a church closer to home so that we could be more
active. God answered our prayer. We began visiting
here in 2007, while searching for a program for our
son, RJ. He began in the Mother’s Day Out program
and moved to the preschool program after a few years.
Our son, Ryan, was born in 2009 and he began the
preschool program a few years later as well. We were
quite pleased with the level of their Christian educational experience. There is so much that we like about
Lamb of God, the teaching, the outreach, and that we
have always felt at home.
On a professional level, I have worked in Management for over 25 years and I feel privileged to bring
that skill set to Lamb of God. I have served as a Deacon. I currently serve on the Strategic Planning Team,
the Stewardship Team and most recently, I am serving
as Co-Director of the Free to...Capital Funds Campaign. I am a manager and teacher by nature and love
to help others. I am blessed to be called to the serving
position of Elder.
I am humbled and I look forward to this opportunity
to grow and serve.
What impressed me the most about LOG is the church

Dear Friends,
Thank you for your recent donation to HAAM. We
were thrilled to receive your gift and are humbled by
your response to our appeal for support for our food
pantry. Thank you for uniting with us and for providing
the kind of help that is needed to continue serving the
most vulnerable in our community.
Your gift will enable us to continue helping our
neighbors in need and those seeking better lives for
themselves and tbeir families.
Sincerely,
Millie Garrison, Executive Director

COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Lamb of God is partnering with HAAM to distribute food. The last time
we did this we handed out 15 tons of produce. What a blessing for our
neighbors!
• Save the date! Thursday, May 21st
• Our next event is set for Thursday, May 21st. We need 25-30 volunteers
from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to distribute food to our community.
• This is also a Thrivent Action Team event, so the first 25 people will
receive a really comfortable t-shirt.
