April 2015 Newsletter - The Landings New Neighbors

April 2015
From The President
New Neighbors Members,
Spring has sprung! This is definitely the most beautiful season at The Landings as all of our
magnificent trees and flowers come into their most glorious. Whether the first or forty-first Spring
season as a resident of The Landings, we’re all overwhelmed yet again by the loveliness around us.
This period of re-birth and growth and planning is also time to explore your new community.
Skidaway locales that you may not have visited: Skidaway Farm Community Garden, the Marshwood
Tower, the Oak Ridge Gazebo, the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service and Aquarium, the
Skidaway Island State Park. All lovely on a Spring day!
April events both here and “over the bridge” for your consideration: New Neighbors gala Rockin’
The Club will be a fun night of dining and dancing, and Wild Women’s Amazing Race (Captain Brannigan’s
Treasure) will have us traversing the cart paths hunting for clues and answering challenging riddles. The
Landover’s’ Croquet and Cocktails promises to be a unique social gathering. The Savannah Music
Festival’s performances continue with terrific variety and eclectic presentations, while the Savannah
Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus has programmed both classical and pop this month. The Telfair
Museum hosts a Pop Art Pop-Up Party, as well as In Living Color, a Free Family Fun Day with an Andy
Warhol exhibit. Consider a visit to the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, where both the building and
the models are fascinating, or the Pin Point Heritage Museum, just up the road from The Landings with a
look into the Gullah community’s history. The Savannah Sand Gnats baseball season kicks off this month
at historic Grayson Stadium. And what a fantastic time for a stroll through Forsyth Park!
Spring also means the re-opening of the Marshwood Club’s Cabana Bar, the terrific spot where so
many New Neighbors - who are members of The Landings Club - gather on Thursday evenings to socialize
and introduce themselves to our newest residents. While this is not a NN activity, you’ll find many, many
members gathering for good times and great conversation.
Aren’t you glad you chose The Landings for the rest and very best of your life?

April is the sesquicentennial of the end of the Civil War. Join us to view local
filmmaker/historian Michael L. Jordan’s 90-minute award winning film that highlights
events and people who played a role in Savannah’s Civil War story. The film includes

introduce viewers to the fascinating people who witnessed the events as they occurred.
Characters include Suzie King Taylor, the only African-American woman to keep a journal
during the war, and Francis Bartow, who suggested gray as the Confederate military
uniform color. Learn about the massive prisoner-of-war camp that housed thousands of

country society that developed during the antebellum period. We will visit a museum and
see a brief film on its history before taking a guided tour of the house. Then on to Jekyll
Island to take a 90 minute tram tour of “Millionaire’s Village." You will experience the once
